What is going on in Italy? First it's Venice under water, and now the Tuscan city of Carrara is being overrun by zombies – the latter only in game form, fortunately, in indie developer Elvis Morelli's episodic horror series Game Over Carrara, which is currently seeking funding through Kickstarter.

When your handle is "Adventure Boy," you're bound to get caught up in plenty of hijinx. That is certainly true this week, as no sooner does the eponymous teenage star appear in one game than we begin looking ahead to the next.

Dec

Cults are not to be messed with, but then neither are spurned cultists when properly motivated, as we're about to find out in the newly-released debut installment of indie Italian developer Neon Sloth Studio's two-part The Cult: Marduk's Longest Night.

Argentine studio Blyts certainly isn't afraid to show its dark side. After debuting with the comedic time-travel adventure Kelvin and the Infamous Machine, the indie developer went a shade darker earlier this year with Nobodies, in which players provide clean-up for government-funded assassins. Their next act will be darker still in the upcoming point-and-click thriller Slender Threads.

Animals aren't dumb. Well, some of them probably are, but not the ones in indie developer Gamechuck's upcoming point-and-click fantasy adventure Trip the Ark Fantastic.

3

Dec

Mountains are better known for their scenic beauty than their terrifying horrors, but in indie developer Hidden Fields' upcoming Mundaun, players will get to experience both at once.

Unless you're a cat, you probably never thought about how much fun you could have with thread. But Beard Envy has, and we'll soon get to see for ourselves when the indie developer launches their sci-fi puzzler Filament early next year.

Solving crimes is hard enough for a private eye, but it's especially so when you need to keep your own business afloat too. There will be no forsaking one for the other next year when indie developer General Interactive releases its cyber-noir adventure/management sim hybrid Chinatown Detective Agency.

Nov

What sight so horrific could push you to the brink of insanity and possibly even over the edge? One such trauma awaits the protagonist of Glimpse of Madness, an upcoming point-and-click mystery by indie Italian developer Hijacked Minds Games.

16

Nov

Video games are often escapist fantasy, but there's no escaping mental illness and more and more games are beginning to explore how the two can positively intersect to raise awareness. One such effort is the newly-released Fractured Minds, a 2017 BAFTA award-winning "interactive short" by teenaged indie developer Emily Mitchell.

Nov

As with so many genre hybrids these days, it's getting harder to tell when a platformer ends and an adventure game begins, or vice versa. One such game that promises to blur the lines even further is the upcoming Onirike, by indie Spanish developer DevilishGames.

You know you're in for a hard day when the best part about it is dying. Such will be the case for the back-from-the-dead protagonist of Powerhoof's upcoming retro-styled thriller, The Drifter.

26

Oct

Seeing is believing, but what if sight is not an option? This is the question Purple Jam are keen to answer with their inaugural audio game, Pitch Black: A Dusklight Story, which is currently raising funds through Kickstarter.

As many people on social media are learning the hard way these days, our written words are forever. Not so in indie developer 5am Games' upcoming Letters – a written adventure, however, as players will have the power to change a girl's life by altering the text of her correspondence. At least, we will if the game is able to reach its Kickstarter crowdfunding goal.

The butler did it! Or maybe it was Professor Plum in the library with the candlestick. If not, it might have been... a painting? As bizarre as that last option sounds, it could very well be the case in Tangle Tower, the newly-released murder mystery puzzler from SFB Games.
