The butler did it! Or maybe it was Professor Plum in the library with the candlestick. If not, it might have been... a painting? As bizarre as that last option sounds, it could very well be the case in Tangle Tower, the newly-released murder mystery puzzler from SFB Games.
When Freya Fellow is shockingly murdered while creating her latest work of art in the top room of the eponymous tower, a "shadowy figure [is] found looming over her body, wielding a knife." Open-and-shut case, right? Well, not so fast, as the lead suspect is "not a person... it’s a painting!" If you're to get to the bottom of this most peculiar mystery, you will need to thoroughly explore a "strange and twisted mansion, discovering curious clues, interrogating peculiar suspects and solving unique puzzles."
If the cartoony hand-painted visuals bear a striking similarity to Detective Grimoire's, it's surely no coincidence, as Tangle Tower is not only from the same developer but Grimoire himself returns as one of the two fully-voiced protagonists, along with his partner Sally. Although not officially referred to as a sequel, the whimsical tone and gameplay also share much in common with its predecessor. As players "investigate the entirety of Tangle Tower, from the bizarre and eerie gardens, to the cold and ominous crime scene at the very top," there will be a host of "brain-twisting" challenges to overcome along the way.
Originally debuting on Apple Arcade for iOS devices, Tangle Tower is now available on Steam for Windows and Mac, and the Nintendo eShop for Switch.
