It's been nearly a decade since we last saw Jonathan Hunt, the young American journalist who returned home to his family's roots in Hungary to uncover a legendary mystery in Yoomurjak's Ring. For years we could only look on helplessly while indie developer Private Moon Studios released a sequel that was never localized into English... until now, as the long-awaited translated version of Miazma or the Devil's Stone is about to be released for Windows PC under the Microïds Indie publishing brand.

Family camping vacations are supposed to be fun bonding times far removed from the stresses of everyday life, but that is most definitely NOT the case in Midnight Hub's Lake Ridden, a new first-person 3D adventure coming early next month.

It's hard enough facing the challenges of one's home being turned into a hellish nightmare without having to fiddle with first-person 3D keyboard controls. At least, so indie developer Bumpy Trail Games thought in releasing their surreal new slideshow-styled adventure, Without Escape.

Real-time adventures are a tough thing to pull off, which is probably why we get so few of them and The Last Express continues to be so beloved two decades after its release. But now Tequila Works is hoping to break into that space with The Invisible Hours, a murder mystery whodunit designed in the style of "immersive theater."

Lucid dreaming can be fun, allowing yourself the freedom to explore fantastical situations without any real-world consequences. But they can also be scary and downright disturbing if one's dreams become nightmares born of subsconscious pain and fear. Dali Games's suitably titled Lucid Dream, which has just debuted on Steam Early Access, is a little of both. 

Solving puzzles may not seem like the most logical mission for the last remaining operative called upon to save the human race, but that's exactly what players will be doing as the titular hero of Returner 77, a former mobile-exclusive sci-fi puzzler that has just been ported to Windows and Mac. 

Adventure games aren't for dummies, so you're going to need to be a whole lot smarter than the protagonist of Megalithic Mainframe's The Idiot's Tale, a new point-and-click comic fantasy adventure now available for download. 

In last year's Lydia, indie Finnish developer Platonic Partnership tackled some dark issues in a very serious way, but they plan to take a more lighthearted approach to other "heavy topics" in their next project, King of Peasants, a "satirical adventure game about prejudice and stupidity."

The unexplained demise of real-world Russian submarine K-141 Kursk on August 12, 2000, when an explosion aboard the vessel led to the deaths of all 118 crew members, is becoming popular subject matter in adventure games. Following the 2015 release of Undercover Missions: Operation Kursk K-141, now comes news of the “first adventure-documentary video game” in the form of the simply-titled KURSK, by Polish studio Jujubee, scheduled for release later this year.

It may have taken 80 days to travel around the world, but it's only 39 Days to Mars in indie developer Philip Buchanan's upcoming "co-operative steampunk survival-adventure game." 

As developers begin to fully understand the emotional power of video games, more and more are choosing to embrace the interactive medium as a vehicle for telling personal, dramatic stories. The latest such studio to do so is Lonely Egg, whose upcoming point-and-click adventure In the Keeper's Shadow represents "a fantastical retelling of co-founder Jessica Fong’s visionary world and her portfolio of over 10 years of work expressing her family’s struggle to confront their history with child abuse."

It takes snails a long time to get anywhere, so imagine how long it'd take them to travel through space and find a new home world! And even when they arrive it'd be no walk in the park, as you can discover for yourselves in the now-complete four-part series of "20 minute adventures" known as Snail Trek. 

Imagine a near-utopian world 30 years from now, when death has become virtually non-existent. And now imagine that you're not going to live to see the day unless you undertake some particular tasks for a mysterious corporation. How far would you go to ensure your own immortality? You'll get to find out in indie Russian developer Dmitry Zagumennov's upcoming visual novel-style sci-fi adventure, Supposedly Wonderful Future.

You know all those adventure games with cute and cuddly anthropomorphic animals? Well, forget about them! The animals in the upcoming Mutagenesis: A Wasteland Odyssey are nothing like that in a post-apocalyptic adventure in which only mutated creatures have survived.
