Halloween may be over, but that doesn't mean the scares have to be. Lucky for us, there are more waiting already, this time in the form of indie developer For7s' Ancra.

Rather than a whodunit, as in Digital Mosaic Games' previous freeware adventure Metaphobia, next the acclaimed indie developer is planning a whotookit, in the form of the upcoming Castle Dornstein.

Supermassive Games certainly doesn't rest on their laurels. Mere days after the launch of House of Ashes comes word of the fourth standalone installment in The Dark Pictures Anthology, a "season finale" called The Devil In Me.

Many adventure games involve solving problems for other others, but curing what ails people is the primary focus in ODD Game Studio's upcoming The Medieval Psychologist.

Waking up in a strange hotel room is scary enough even when it just means you partied a bit too hard the night before. When that room turns out to be in a whole other reality, you've got much bigger problems. That's the rather shocking dilemma facing the protagonist of Provenance: Room 226, the upcoming debut title from solo developer Steve Coyle.

Conspiracy theories are everywhere these days, and most of them are total bunk. But just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you, right? Telling fact from fiction will be a key component of indie developer Orbis Tertius Games' upcoming retro-styled adventure, Personal Rocket.

Reliving the same day over and over may not be hell, but it sure is close in Galla's Kulebra and the Souls of Limbo, an upcoming afterlife adventure that is currently seeking crowdfunding on Kickstarter.

Adventure games are traditionally solo affairs, but some involve elements of cooperative puzzle solving between multiple characters to succeed. French developer Monochrome has made this dual-character element the primary gameplay focus in their newly released Tandem: A Tale of Shadows, in which shadows can be platforms and gravity is in the eye of the beholder. There's a magical mansion to explore in its surreal Victorian-era world, and it's down to a little girl and a bear to uncover its secrets.

At first glance you'd certainly be forgiven for thinking The Frogs was another game in Joe Richardson's series of Renaissance-themed adventures (Four Last Things and its sequels), but while it may look similar, the upcoming point-and-click adventure by indie developer Michael Wells tells a much different story in an entirely different era altogether.

Usually the term "on rails" refers to a highly linear experience over which the player has little control. But sometimes it's meant far more literally than that, as is the case in Pomeshkin Valentin Igorevich's recently released steampunk adventure, Pnevmo-Capsula: Domiki.

Looking for work can be an adventure, but usually not the sort they make games about. Fortunately the search for employment promises to be a whole lot more fun than sending out CVs and attending interviews in Sugarpunch Games' upcoming Behind the Beyond, a fantastical point-and-click comic adventure inspired by Hungarian folklore.

Puzzle-centric adventures may not be the first things that come to mind when considering social get-togethers, but more and more new titles are focusing on a co-op experience made for two. The latest such example is Studio Sterneck's appropriately named Get Together, which is now available on PC and mobile devices.

Sometimes in order to see something more clearly, a change in perspective is required. It’s a skill seasoned adventure gamers must harness, moving about an environment, examining details large and small in unusual ways. In Optillusion’s upcoming puzzler Moncage, doing so is the sole focus of the game, with a mysterious picture box bending dimensions in wholly unique ways.

You never know when adventure will come calling. I mean, there you are, just going about your day, maybe daydreaming or thinking what's for dinner, and then bam! You're hurtling through a portal to parts unknown (but probably very wacky). In the swashbuckling spirit of the genre's classics, it'll soon be time once again to put common sense aside and brace for comedy hijinks in A Twisted Tale, the upcoming debut by German indie studio Voodoo Bembel.

Fishing is a dangerous sport – mostly for the fish, but sometimes for the anglers themselves, depending on where exactly they're casting their lines. It'll be up to players to find out what happened to a missing fisherman in indie developer Laserblast Studios' upcoming retro-styled adventure, Thin Ice.
