There's a series of homicides needing to be solved in solo developer Morgana A.T.'s Human Guise, though for now we'll have to make do with a short introductory chapter setting the stage for the larger mystery to follow.

It's said that good things come to those that wait, and that certainly seems to be true where Flight of the Amazon Queen is concerned. First the 1995 point-and-click adventure was declared legal freeware, then it was updated for a 25th anniversary rerelease, and now it appears the game will finally be getting a sequel in the form of Return of the Amazon Queen.

A real-life treasure hunt probably sounds like a great birthday challenge for any adventure gamer, and while indie Ukrainian developer Weasel Token can't offer us all that, they are offering the next best thing in the upcoming side-scroller Puzzles for Clef.

We've probably all entertained the thought of revisiting the past and making changes to improve our current circumstances, but all we can really control is making the best choices in our present to improve our outlook for the future. This is the challenge facing the protagonist of The Wreck, the upcoming visual novel-styled adventure from the creators of Bury Me, My Love.

The current calendar may be rapidly winding down, but there's already no shortage of promising new games on the horizon for 2022. One of the first that's scheduled to arrive is Creepybox Games' point-and-click fantasy adventure, Blackberry the Witch: Journey

When we consider Asian horror we may instinctively think of Japanese movies and games like The Ring, The Grudge, Silent Hill and Resident Evil, but the Chinese have their fair share of folklore-inspired horror stories as well. The latest ghost story out of China is Shiying Studio's Firework, which has just been localized into English and released for Windows PC.

There's just something about the combination of trains and murder that makes for a compelling claustrophic mystery. But while most such whodunits are content to play it fairly straight, Robust Games' upcoming Loco Motive will taking a much lighter approach to its otherwise serious subject matter when it arrives next summer.

While many horror games and movies rely on cheap scares to frighten their audiences, the most effective ones seem to fill your very soul with dread. Rem Michalski understands this all too well, as ably demonstrated in The Cat Lady, Downfall and Lorelai. Soon the acclaimed indie developer will be back with more blood-curdling chills in the upcoming Burnhouse Lane ... but this time we'll at least have a fighting chance against the things that terrify us.

There have been many famous "Quest" games in the adventure genre over the years, from King's Quest to Police Quest to Space Quest, and of course Adventure Gamers' own incomparable free Christmas Quest trilogy. The next game hoping to join this classic (and not-so-classic) pantheon is a quest of a much smaller scope than usual but no less important: the upcoming Pants Quest by indie Australian developer Ghost Cat Games.

The Expanse has drawn plenty of critical acclaim throughout its five-year run on Amazon Prime, but with the popular sci-fi series about to launch its sixth and final season, the end appeared near. Not so, however, as the franchise is poised to expand itself in the form of a new episodic game series from Telltale, Deck Nine Games and the Alcon Interactive Group.

It's been a long time since the last adventure game in the Star Trek universe, but that is due to change next year with a new Telltale-style narrative adventure by Dramatic Labs called Star Trek: Resurgence.

Adventure games looking back at the start of detectives' careers is all the rage these days, from Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One to Hercule Poirot: The First Cases. While not quite as famed or accomplished as his human colleagues, feline investigator Inspector Waffles will be the next in line to get the prequel treatment in Goloso Games' upcoming Early Days.

One of the first rules of adventure games is: NEVER knock on a stranger's door, especially in the middle of nowhere. Or rather, definitely do knock (or it wouldn't be much of a game), but brace yourself for the worst of what might follow. The latest release to reinforce this particular message is SOTANO, the new game from M9 Games.

Normally we wannabe sleuths can only pretend to be detectives in investigative mysteries, but in indie developer PCI Agent's recently released PCI Public Crime Investigation, we can be ourselves and still bring criminals to justice from the comfort of our own homes.

Dysfunctional family gatherings can be killers, but usually that's meant more figuratively than literally. Not so in Wales Interactive and Good Gate Media's upcoming interactive FMV mystery, Who Pressed Mute on Uncle Marcus?
