Many of us have probably wished everyone would just leave us alone at some point in our lives. But be careful what you wish for, as you just might get it. Indonesian developer Gamecom Team offers us a glimpse of what life would be like to really be left alone in A Day Without Me, the 2020 isometric adventure that will be available today on additional consoles. 

The story of animals suddenly having their world turned upside down by the invasion of aggressive machinery is all too alarmingly real, and yet in the right hands it can be the subject of great entertainment as well. Solo German developer Hans Klöpfel of WatchDaToast looks to tap into this environmental theme in a fantastical way with his debut adventure Beyond the Edge of Owlsgard sometime next year. 

Nightmares can be weird, somehow both absurdly ridiculous and super scary. As in, you can be frantically trying to escape an abandoned building, heart pounding out of your chest at every creak and dead end, when you run into a giant teapot and a woman with a fish for a head. Hold that thought, because it's being turned into a game in the form of Dying: 1983, by Chinese indie studio 2P Games. 

One of the worst fears for any child is to suddenly find themselves lost and alone, but imagine how much worse it would be to not even know where you are, except that you're far from home. This is the fate of the lonely young protagonist of Sacrificial Lighthouse, an upcoming "psychological thriller with quest elements" by indie developer PhobiaGamesNet, creator of the episodic adventure Mad Cat's World. 

It's alarming how many human jobs have already been replaced by machines, but if the upcoming sci-fi narrative adventure The Last Worker is any indication, the situation is going to get a whole lot worse. 

Most environmental puzzle games involve finding ways to traverse the limited available space. This is true of indie developer Ateliér Duchů's upcoming Repeat as well, though here you'll do so in a much different way than usual: by creating more (of the same) space for yourself.

If the story of a shiftless young man traveling to Central Europe to uncover his family legacy sounds familiar, you're on the right track with regards to an upcoming new FMV adventure from indie developer Flimmersoft. But here it's not Gabriel Knight in the starring role, but the titular protagonist of the fan-made Markus Ritter: Ghosts of the Past, which is currently seeking crowdfunding through Kickstarter.

The Diary of a Young Girl may be the most famous chronicle of war from a child's perspective, but Anne Frank wasn't the only youth who recorded her traumatic experiences on paper. Inspired by the journals of other such children, indie Russian developer Perelesoq's upcoming Torn Away will seek to convey the horrors of World War II from a very unique, particularly vulnerable perspective. 

Poor Alice. When she first tumbled down the rabbit hole, little could the young heroine of Lewis Carroll's 1865 classic have known that her fate would be inextricably connected to Wonderland forevermore. The latest case in point: MediaCity Games' casual adventure sequel Alice Trapped Beyond Wonderland, which has just been ported and released on PC.

If a game is announced but hasn't yet received the necessary crowdfunding, does it really exist? This is the existential question facing Schrodinger's Catgirl, an upcoming visual novel-styled point-and-click mystery from Spider Lily Studios, the indie creators of Retrace: Memories of Death.

Anything sugar coated is usually concealing a bit of bite underneath. This is certainly true of Apopia: Sugar Coated Tale, an upcoming cartoon-styled adventure from two-man Hong Kongese indie studio Quillo Games that hides a lot of darkness beneath its charming exterior.
