Below you'll find an overview of Adventure Games that have received a very high rating based on our reviews, the list is sorted based on highest rated Adventure Game first combined with recency of the review we've done.

Downfall  (2009)

A promising first effort from a small developer, Downfall sometimes leans towards style over substance, but it can be a creepy way to spend a few hours, as long as you aren’t squeamish.

Still Life 2  (2009)

Still Life 2 has too little polish to bear close comparison to the original, but its compelling story makes the sequel an interesting game in its own right.

Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Adventures: Episode 2 - The Last Resort  (2009)

While still an enjoyable experience, The Last Resort fails to live up to its potential, and is more of an “Average Outing” than a Grand Adventure.

Amazon: Guardians of Eden  (1992)

Despite its unpolished gameplay and dated (even at the time) production values, Amazon is still an engrossing game that will please many old-school adventurers.

Nancy Drew: The Haunting of Castle Malloy  (2008)

Despite a challenging selection of puzzles, The Haunting of Castle Malloy is one of the weaker entries in the longrunning series that will appeal mainly to dedicated Nancy Drew fans.

The Tales of Bingwood: Chapter I - To Save a Princess  (2008)

If you like replaying the old classics, you'll probably enjoy a nostalgic throwback like Tales of Bingwood, but there’s room for series improvement in establishing an identity of its own.

Rhiannon: Curse of the Four Branches  (2008)

Rhiannon is a promising debut offering from a small development team, but a strong storyline is let down by the game’s uninteresting environments and basic presentation.

Everlight: Of Magic & Power  (2008)

Everlight is no classic, but it still manages to be charming and fun despite its faults, particularly if you like light-hearted fantasy games.

Murder in the Abbey  (2008)

Largely enjoyable as a medieval mystery, Murder in the Abbey’s fairly weak gameplay lets down the quality of the story.

Penumbra: Requiem  (2008)

Makes an entertaining addendum to Penumbra; just don’t expect it to be as good as, or even similar to, the previous games.

Outcry  (2008)

Wasting its fascinating premise with overblown pretension, Outcry is beautiful to look at and listen to, but only for fans of puzzle-driven games.

Insecticide  (0)

Insecticide is a refreshing mix of gameplay elements, but the action sequences really drag the experience down. And splitting a short full game into two halves just isn’t cricket.

Space Quest II: Chapter II - Vohaul’s Revenge  (1987)

Despite plenty of opportunities for frustration, there’s enough humor and clever design to make it worth soldiering through the rough patches. As 1/6th of the bargain-priced 2006 Space Quest Collection, there’s no excuse not to play it.

Lost: Via Domus  (2008)

If as much effort had been put into the “game” part as to the atmosphere and set dressing, we might have a new classic on our hands, but instead the lackluster and dull gameplay make Lost: Via Domus a title for fans of the show only.

AGON: The Lost Sword of Toledo  (2008)

The first full-length AGON episode is a decent puzzle adventure, but The Lost Sword of Toledo won't be eliciting shouts of "olé!" from anyone but existing fans of the series.

Diamonds in the Rough  (2008)

Diamonds in the Rough is based on an interesting premise, but its generally dull implementation prevents it from realizing its potential. Indie fans may find it worth a look, but others may want to think twice.

The Experiment  (2008)

A terrific way to spend 6 hours but a mediocre way to spend 15. The interface is a strong first step towards a new way of playing adventure games, but only the most patient of gamers will be inclined to endure the game’s other flaws and see it through to the end.

Heart of China  (1991)

Heart of China is both entertaining and genuinely replayable, but its clichéd trappings and a number of design quirks prevent it from being truly great.

Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros’ Treasure  (2007)

While not spectacular as a game in and of itself, the gameplay innovations it presents to the adventure genre might make it worth a try.

Touch Detective 2½  (2007)

If you're a DS owner and you like adventure games, you might enjoy this one, in spite of its flaws. It's not horribly offensive, it's just not as good as it could be.
