The Dalish Elves, a very proud and fierce race inhabiting the Brecilian Forest.

Dragon Age. Still exploring the Brecilian Forest.

I'm a level 10 Mage working on Primal spells, though I may have some difficulty deciding my specialty. I know I'm not doing Blood Mage (I don't want to lose Wynne) or Shapeshifter, will probably do Spiritual Healer augmented with Primal and Creation spells.

Dude, I feel your pain. I was stuck on that exact same part and it really frustrated the hell outta me. The gameplay in Brutal Legend is a mixed bag for me and I don't/didn't enjoy the RTS elements one bit.

The only thing I can suggest, which is what I did in the end, is to take over 1 or 2 of those nearby fan gysers, keep recruiting Headbangers and Razorgirls, keep sending them off to assault Ofelia's stage and keep using your solos - such as Call of the Wild, Face Melter, Rock Block and Bring It on Home.

You may need to juggle between defending your Merch Booths and attacking her stage. I also suggest finding/unlocking all of the solos before this battle and ride the animal, that you get from activating Call of the Wild, and use it to keep trashing her stage.

That's basically what I did and eventually I beat her. Just be warned though, there's another one against Ofelia soon after, but I think it's a LOT easier.

That's why I didn't buy it - I'm playing it at a friend's who's crazy about the game. Also, I could be playing a game that had micromanagement and was ridiculously hard - playing a game that I find boring is rather hard for me. But I am at the very beginning still, so I'll give it another shot.

Regarding adventure games, I'm playing "The Trial and Execution of Guybrush Threepwood". I've got two charges dropped and now I'm working on the other two. I know WHAT I have to do, but not HOW to do it.

Then I'm also continuing with "Final Fantasy 12". Started a new game a while back, then stopped because I discovered Telltale and TLJ/Dreamfall. I've reached the Stillshrine, but I've headed back to Rabanastre to try some hunts first.

EDIT:
I've reached the part in the story where I have to find my way into Archadia. So I need to get past the Wyrm's Nest in the Westersand. I'm in Rabanastre, alreeady talked to the guys at the gate and on the fountain. The last one told me to find Northon at Storehouse 5 in Lowtown. But I can't find him! First I thought it was a glitch because I had already accepted the Zorthros hunt in the Garamsythe Waterways, and Storehouse 5 is filled with people watching the thief. So I finished the hunt first, thinking perhaps Northon would show up there when those other people were gone. But still nobody. I must've talked to almost every green dot on the map (well, obviously not all of them, because this guy must be hiding somewhere!) I just hope it's not a real glitch and this guy doesn't show up, meaning I'm stuck!

Brutal Legend: Currently at the stage where
Spoiler:
Ophelia drinks from the river of black tears and turns into the undead
.

To say this is so far my biggest disappointment of the year is an understatement. I am a HUGE fan of Tim Schafer's previous work, and his story telling, world, and characters are still wonderfully crafted here. My main gripe is with the gameplay. See Psychonauts, besides being funny, and having a great cast and world was FUN to play. Brutal Legend's gameplay is average to sometimes extremely mediocre. The game starts on an extremely high note till the end of the demo, then it goes downhill after that. I am a big fan of RTS games, but not on a console (due to the clunky interface), and especially not from a first person perspective. To combine these 2 aspects as one of the most major gameplay elements is mind boggling. Not to forget the repetitive and boring side missions. It's like plowing through the torture and pain of the gameplay to get to the wonderful story parts, which is a true shame .

That's pretty much how I feel about the game too.

I'm playing Divine Divinity and I'm headed to Nericon Gardens to open them up. I've heard something about frogs...

I also just started playing The Marionette. I've just reached the Gallery. So far the game is pretty interesting.

I want to play Divine Divinity, but I can't get the demo to run on my system. Not a good sign.

I might get the Marionette - I was hoping for some new games to enjoy while at home for the Christmas holidays; but games developers (particularly those of Bioshock 2 and Silent Hill: Shattered Memories) decide to delay titles scheduled for before Christmas to after Christmas when they are both relatively inaccessible.

Oh well.
I'll just have to make do with talking to people.

I'm playing "The X-Files". Great fun. I always try to get those extra stuff you see when making certain decisions, like the letter from the wife, the little girl at the motel, etc. Played through the first day. I love the atmosphere in the apartment where you can look at pictures, turn on music, read the rejected short story, the answering machine, ... Such an amount of detail and a level of realism often missing in these games. Frankly, I think I've only seen it repeated in "Fahrenheit".

Just started a character on Titan Quest -- a pure mage character. An Elementalist (mix of Storm and Earth masteries). Never played a pure mage on this game before. Should be interesting, provided I can keep my defenses up.

Currently playing "The Longest Journey," at the start of Chapter 12 of 13. I've had to use a couple of hints for what turned out to be annoying reasons ("you have to show such and such item from your inventory to so and so before you are allowed to do this completely unrelated thing in a different part of the city"), but most of the puzzles have made pretty good sense.

On ice (savegame) right now is Baldur's Gate. This is my first time playing it! I'm not very far yet, haven't gone to the Nashkel mines. I'm wandering around trying to level up my party a few times (I think everyone is currently level 3) before tackling the next part of the main plot. I got stuck in one spot where some ogres or such kept killing my party with poison arrows. Obviously I need more potions and/or a way to prevent them from shooting me in the first place. Just bought a "hold person" spell which looks promising but I seem not to be able to cast it yet. Got annoyed and that's why it's on ice now. I'll try again once I finish "The Longest Journey."

"TLJ" is actually the first adventure game I've played since the mid 1980s (old Apple II days). I was browsing through GOG's catalogue and thought, what the heck, that should be a nice change of pace. This seems to have been a slippery slope as I have since also bought Tex Murphy Under a Killing Moon and am considering some others as well!

Grim Fandango, just up to Year 2. Finally had no trouble with the wheelbarrow puzzle!

The cutscene showing the diner transformed into the casino was once again breathtaking. I just sat watching Manny standing up at the top of his casino for like 10 minutes, looking at the view over Rubacava. I noticed that Manny was intermittently smoking too

Last week I played a lot of Heroes of Might and Magic III. It's a classic turn-based strategy game, set in a fantasy world of myth and legend. Brilliant music.

jbuniii that's awesome that you're getting to play BG1 for the first time!! Just beat it again a few weeks ago.

Tip if you're having trouble: Archers. Elven archers. They can't do wrong (Kivan and Coran).

I'm currently playing too many games right now. Uncharted 2, but it's my second run so it's not a big priority. Ratchet and Clank: A Crack of Time (a few hours into it, doubt I'm halfways yet, as R&C games usually are pretty long), In Cold Blood (from GOG.com, finally decided to give it a proper go. It works, the mechanics are not very good but it feels like a proper Revolution adventure game. And finally, I've also just acquired Assassin's Creed II today, and played the first couple of hours.

I just played through the demo of Machinarium. Two clever and entertaining puzzles later, I'm left wanting more. At $20 it seems a little steep for what it is, but on the other hand since it's an indie game I imagine the bulk of that will go straight to the developers, and not some publishing conglomerate, which is cool. In any case, the demo is free and highly recommended if you haven't already tried it:

[In no way whatsoever am I affiliated with the makers of this game.]

Thanks, I haven't encountered Kivan or Coran yet, but I'm using Imoen as an archer, and also my primary character and Jaheira are arching [if that's not a word, it should be] when we aren't casting spells. [I am playing as a fighter/mage, if I recall correctly.]

There are two others acting as tanks, even if though they aren't really all that strong yet. Then there is Xan, I think his name is, who can cast spells but not much else. I'm planning to ditch him when I find someone better. I already let his partner die without resurrecting him.

By the way, I'm using TuTu and the widescreen mod, mostly for the improved graphics, but I also noticed that some of the gameplay has changed versus my initial attempt using plain vanilla BG1. For example, I could swear that the "entangle" spell in BG1 only affects a single enemy, whereas with TuTu it sprouts vines all over the freaking place which also entangle my party if I get too close! I wonder if differences like these will result in enough gameplay differences to make the experience suboptimal, or if it will actually make it better. Any opinions?

Brutal Legend

I'm finishing up by obtaining my last few achievements. I've been at this game too long for my liking and I can't wait to fully finish it. I've been making little progress here and there, but because I'm starting to get fed up with it, I tend to feel reluctant to continue.

I just want/need to unlock all the Tainted Coil concept art, spend over 250,000 fans (could take a little while, sadly) and kill a certain amount of enemies using certain allies from Ironheade, the Tainted Coil and the Drowning Doom.

Aliens vs. Predator 2

Beaten the Marine and Predator campaigns and I've made a start on the Alien one. This one requires more stealth than the others. I quite liked being a Facehugger, creeping around quickly (but stealthy) through the corridors, finding some unsuspecting host, pouncing on their face and impregnating them, then finally biting and bursting out of someones chest as an Alien and escaping out the window.

This, however, is another game I just want to finish. Then I can stick it back on ebay.

Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space

And again... yet another game that I've been at for too long, on and off, and just want to finish. I'm currently on the final episode - What's New Beelzebub? - and I'm trying to free Santa and the Elf from their own personal hell.

Grand Theft Auto: The Ballad of Gay Tony

Beaten the story and now I just want/need to replay every mission and get 100% for my last two achievements. Could take quite a while.

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars

I'm on the Bomb Disposal mission for Zhou Ming.

Tutu is awesome I use it as well - that entangle spell getting your own guys meant they failed the saving throw I think.

Fighter/Mage is a great class. If you want the best tank pick up Minsc in Nashkel. If you do his quest with the Gnoll Stronghold you can get a pretty good mage there (Dynaheir). There is also a mage in Nashkel called Edwin, but he's chaotic evil and causes problems with Minsc. Lastly in Nashkel there is a very useful Ankheg Armour set hidden - if you want to find it check Gamebanshee or Gamefaqs for it's coordinates.

I recommend dualling Imoen at around level 5 to Mage, when you get her pick locks and find traps to around 85.
You can find Kivan in the High Hedge area, west of Beregost I think. You get Coran later during the Cloakwood quest!

Cool, thanks. I'll keep an eye out for these people. Once I get rolling again my plan is to head back to Beregost and do the quests there and then head south to Nashkel. Is level 3 for all party members high enough to tackle Beregost or should I explore the countryside for a while longer to level up a few more times? What level should I aim for before starting the Nashkel mines? [BTW I've already been to Nashkel long enough to talk to the mayor, so the people who were threatening to quit the party have now shut up. I assume that means I can wait as long as I like before actually doing the Nashkel quests, right?]

In other news I just started "Sanitarium" last night, a recent GOG purchase. Really cool so far, I just started chapter 3. No elves or fairies in this game - just psychos and really creepy deformed children so far. My kind of adventure game!
