Doorways: Prelude  (2013)

Halfway through this four-part series, Doorways can’t separate itself from the abundance of other first-person horror games, offering only an uninteresting story and dull gameplay so far.

Eleusis  (2013)

Eleusis starts off promisingly enough, but well-appointed graphics can’t make up for the lackluster story and generally poor gameplay.

Alone in the Park  (2011)

Alone in the Park offers a different approach to treasure hunting, though it’s anything but a pleasant, annoyance-free afternoon stroll.

Adventures of Max Fax  (2013)

While a short, breezy adventure can make for a refreshing change of pace, Max Fax‘s debut is hampered by a weak story and translation issues that make too much of the light-hearted comedy fall flat.

Police Quest: Open Season (Daryl F. Gates’)  (1993)

With a conclusion that borders on incomprehensible, Police Quest 4 offers impressive technological advances from previous games in the series, but loses their simpler charms.

Metropolis Crimes  (2009)

The nicely integrated puzzles in Metropolis Crimes are fun to solve when they work, but the weak story and characters and overly frustrating controls will have you seeing red.

Haunting at Cliffhouse  (2012)

The ghosts of Haunting at Cliffhouse are far from frightening, but the thin story and standard casual puzzles may just scare you away from an otherwise pleasant vacation.

Red Johnson’s Chronicles: One Against All  (2012)

If you love solving puzzles you may enjoy One Against All, particularly if this is your first Red Johnson adventure, but this sequel is overrun with flaws, and if you’re in it for the story and characters, look elsewhere.

James Peris: No Licence Nor Control  (2012)

James Peris: No License Nor Control is a long, hard and naughty secret agent-themed game, but it has more than its fair share of villainous problems.

Anna - Extended Edition  (2012)

The Extended Edition of Anna is a definite improvement over the original, though there’s still nothing that really jumps out for horror fans (except for the now-dangerous poltergeists).

Miskatonic: Part 1 - The Inhuman Stain  (2011)

The first Miskatonic installment shows some promise from a one-man indie developer who clearly loves the genre, but it leaves plenty of room for improvement in the upcoming episodes.

The Shine of a Star  (2012)

The Shine of a Star provides a charming but frustrating hour-long journey through a surreal world that’s light on puzzles but dark in every other way.

The Jolly Gang’s Misadventures in Africa  (2011)

The Jolly Gang's Misadventures in Africa fixes some of its predecessor's design flaws and considerably improves the puzzles, but still disappoints with its often-ambiguous gameplay and subpar production quality.

Cardboard Castle  (2011)

Cardboard Castle is a creative puzzler that thinks outside the box, but it's a missed opportunity with repetitive obstacles and a throwaway story about nothing much.
