Jelena, it's simple. After 17:00, it's enough. That leaves you ample time to contribute to the forum.

I'm with you tsa. After 17:30 it's shut off time, thankfully.

EDIT: Though having said that, I do understand Jelena because when I was a head waiter I used to find it really difficult to shut off after evening shifts.

I'm sorry you're exhausted. I know what that's like.

Hello Bleurrrggh,
More complications have arisen with the fact that I haven't got accomodation in the Halls of Residence, meaning I have to rent a flat about ten minutes away from the campus.
Knowing that I'll be living away from campus is causing even more worries because I was already stressing out over about whether I'd be able to make friends and this has just made it worse.
Still, it is incentive to get a job, I suppose.

Hammerite is that 10 minutes on foot? Or by transport? In the first year of my uni I lived about 10 minutes away from campus on foot and while I didn't know anybody, was really shy and socially clumsy I made plenty of friends who I still know today so fret not! Many people get so wound up about the friends thing and it all happens quite naturally. Friendships tend to start on the course itself and grow more outside of it so as I say don't worry about it.

Ten minutes by bus - but I'm thinking I might be okay, as long as the other people in the flat (there should be others) aren't absolute bastards.

Your comments are quite reasurring, by the way, so thank ye.

Definitely don't worry. It's really, really easy to make friends at the University, especially amongst the other first years. You will all be in the 'same boat', so to speak, and believe me you will have plenty of friends right away from the very first class

True, and don't forget you will have to do a lot of courses and other stuff together with your fellow students. I lived more than half an hour from University and I made quite a few good friends there.

Hahaha I lived with five others in my flat; one male breakdancing exhibitionist (I'll upload a pic of him on the photo thread ), three emo/indie/metal skunkpussy girls (two of which were joined at the hip) and a really sound guy with great taste in music. I was the uneasy one that didn't really drink (yet) and hadn't found my footing with socialising. There was a little friction with the two joined at the hip but the others were good fun and we had a lot of laughs. Uni was one of the best times of my life and honestly hope it's the same for you.

I also lived in a nice flat when I did my Ph.D. We had Fred the loser, who was very smart and unbelievably uncaring. He overslept big time once when he had a very important job interview. He had to appear in court because he was too lazy to remove his car wreck from the street. Then we had Ellen who is still a good friend of mine. She moved with her boyfriend to Hengelo and later to Deventer. She was more or less normal (she still is). Next was Angelina. We called her Angie, as she did herself, and she had the ability to wind any man around her finger. She was nice, and very good at bridge. Her study was not so important to her until she finally decided she had had enough fun and she should finish her study. During her last year she managed to flood the laboratory during the night because her setup was a bit less secure than she thought. Later she moved to Den Haag.
She was replaced by another Fred, who was a real nerd. He introduced me to Linux, which was cool. We got along quite well. The first Fred was replaced by Charlotte, who was lean, blond, young, tall and beautiful when she entered the house. Fred had promised to have his room cleaned out when she arrived, so naturally he was still fast asleep when Charlotte appeared with a car and wagon full of her stuff. Charlotte was a nice girl, except when you had a relationship with her. She once went to Spain on vacation, and her boyfriend was not allowed to come with her. We got calls from weird guys for weeks after she was back. I wonder how she is doing now. I guess she is doing quite well. She wasn't stupid, but not really used to use her brain.

Of course I faked all the names, but not the rest. I still have good memories of the bunch of people I lived with there.

Hammerite-I was a bit worried about making friends, too. But I had to just stop boarding myself up in my room on my computer, and get out there and meet people. If you hang out on campus some, I'm sure you'll make wonderful friends. You'll probably meet people in class first.

Don't worry about it. You'll have plenty of friends.

I'm still playing catch up with a lot of games that I missed while at uni. But get this: we didn't have a tv, radio or (gasp) internet connection for 3 years. All we had was some sofas, a sound system and a great stack of cds. And it was mint.

I'm trying to figure out how to get all my CDs (I have a huge collection - I'm famous for it amongst my friends) to my dwelling.

My boyfriend just informed me that tonight he can't go out - tomorrow he has a tournament and he must prepare -, so now the question is: shall I go out anyway or should I stay at home, foruming a bit and maybe finishing Sanitarium? Uhm...

Hmmm. Asking gamer forumites if you should go out or stay home and game, isn't that a gimme answer?

Ten minutes, that's nothing. I lived 80-95 minutes away by bus.

But then, I didn't quite make any friends I stayed in touch with. In fact, there was only one person that I met who I hadn't completely lost contact with, and that was because I ran into her somewhere else.

MP3? FLAC? Maybe even burning a few to DVD audio? And if you need to use actual CDs, how about just making copies and packing them in a spindle or something, so you don't have to worry about the originals getting scratched up or degraded by sunlight?

Out, what is this out you speak of? Is Sanitarium any good, I'm looking for a new game to play to fill the time until the new Prof Layton game comes out (although if it's anything like the last one, it will only take 2 sittings to complete, and a slight hand cramp).
