Chromatic Memories: A Colorful Dive into the Past

The Spanish indie studio, Perla Oculta, has launched its visual novel, Chromatic Memories, on Steam. The game, set in the Canary Islands in the early 2000s, is priced at $9.99/€9.99. In Chromatic Memories, technology has evolved to the point where individuals known as memory painters can manipulate people's minds, changing or erasing their memories. You can watch the Chromatic Memories trailer here:

The game follows Nayara, a memory painter who one day realizes that she has been erasing her own past memories. Nayara embarks on a journey to uncover what she was trying to hide forever. She dives deep into her past, interacting with people present in her memories and gathering pieces of information to help solve the mystery. Nayara also has the ability to associate specific memories with emotions and different time points. By using pigments, she can craft new colors through minigames, allowing players to better recall her life's passages or visit events that occurred at the same location but at different moments.

Chromatic Memories provides a unique experience with several key features. These include the opportunity to reshape Nayara's destiny within a captivating narrative of loss, grief, and acceptance. Players can explore an alternate version of the Canary Islands in the 2000s, navigate through their own memories, craft new colors for their investigation, and learn from the past to bring happiness to Nayara in the present. The game boasts visually stunning graphics with a vibrant Fauvism art style inspired by early 20th-century avant-garde artists. Furthermore, its distinctive soundtrack draws inspiration from Spanish folklore, incorporating elements of progressive rock, blues, and flamenco.
