Text Adventure Playthrough #7: Christminster
I’ve seen wilco around too, was hoping he would join.
>n
You turn right into Bridge Street.
Bridge Street
Bridge Street runs east to west and is bounded to the south by the brick wall of Biblioll College. The street broadens into a square here.
A busking magician stands behind a folding trestle table, exhorting passers-by to come and watch his tricks. On the table are three inverted cups (one red, one green and one blue).
“Roll up! Roll up!” calls the busker.

> x red, blue, green cup
> x table
PROM, NAPOL, PROM! - The Rise of the Golden Idol
>x magician
He’s a tall gangling man, with long and nimble fingers. He is carrying a black rod, and wearing a purple cape.
“Who’ll come and see my magic?” calls the busker.
>x red
You see nothing special about the red cup.
“Three perfectly ordinary coloured cups,” says the busker. He lifts each in turn to show that it is empty. “Nothing under any of them,” he says.
>x blue
You see nothing special about the blue cup.
“There are no tricks, no hidden pockets, no false bottoms,” says the busker. “Please, examine the cups, look under them and assure yourself that they are perfectly ordinary.”
>x green
You see nothing special about the green cup.
A police constable strolls up the street towards you.
“Nothing under the red cup,” says the busker, lifting it up to show you.
>x table
You see nothing special about the table.
“Nothing under the green cup,” says the busker, lifting it up to show you.
> x rod, cape
PROM, NAPOL, PROM! - The Rise of the Golden Idol
>x rod
It has a silver star on the tip. You’ve never seen it before, but it has a strange air of deja vu about it.
“Nothing under the blue cup,” says the busker, lifting it up to show you.
>x cape
You see nothing special about the purple cape.
“Now,” says the busker, “to demonstrate that I’m not using any prepared equipment, I’d like to do this trick with an object from the audience.”
>Give telegram to busker
>give telegram to busker
(first taking the telegram)
The busker accepts the telegram. “Hmm,” he says, “this isn’t really appropriate for this trick, but perhaps…” He methodically tears your telegram into small strips, then eats the strips one by one. Noticing your discomfiture, he taps the green cup and says, “Take a look here.”
>x green
What?! Eating our telegram? Can’t wait to see what’s under the green cup.

>x green
You see nothing special about the green cup.
“Go on, look under the green cup,” says the busker.
>look under green
Under the green cup is a piece of folded paper. You take it and unfold it. It’s your telegram!
“Now,” says the busker, “I need a small object from the audience for my next trick.”
Hmmmm… perhaps we need a special small object. Can we do some more exploring first?

West takes us back to Chapel Street (silly automap!) so how about I take us east?
>e
You cross a bridge over a gentle north-flowing river, and then turn right onto Lady Margaret Green.
Lady Margaret Green
This damp grassy meadow slopes gently down towards the wall of Biblioll College to the west. To the north and south you could re-enter the streets of Christminster.
There is a man lying on the grass here, fast asleep.
>x man
He’s a donnish sort of chap, with a receding hairline and a handlebar moustache. He’s snoring loudly, and every so often his nose twitches as if he’s about to sneeze. He appears to be lying on a brass key.
> tickle man
> wake up man
>wake up man
You shake the sleeping man, but your efforts fail to wake him.
>tickle man
What do you want to tickle the don with?
> x key
> get key
