There’s just so many films I love it’s very difficult just to pick a few out of the many but here are 5 that are interchangeable with others so not necessarily the top 5 for any of the answers:

1 Lord of the Rings (trilogy), Alien, Mad Max, The Breakfast Club, Kill Bill (1 & 2).......
2 Steven Spielberg, John Carpenter, David Lynch, Quentin Tarantino, Stanley Kubrick. ....
3 Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Jeff Bridges, Anthony Hopkins, Vincent Price…....
4 Cate Blanchett, Sigourney Weaver, Kathy Bates, Helen Mirren, Goldie Hawn…...
5 Vivien Leigh (Gone with the Wind), Anthony Perkins (Psycho), Rene Zellweger (Bridget Jones Diary).....
6 Arnold Swarzenegger (but I have to confess to loving him in the Conan Barbarian films!), Sylvester Stallone, Steven Seagal.

I’ll have to have to give a little more thought to questions 7 & 8

What? Why? Seen Cool Hand Luke? The Hustler? Color of Money? Road to Perdition? Butch & Sundance?

Johnny Depp (sorry TimovieMan)

Don’t apologize. I fully recognize he was a great actor before he started to betray his own principles (that he picked up from Marlon Brando no less - “an actor only has so many faces in his pockets” - don’t play too many movies so you remain fresh). After Pirates, he seemingly started playing for paychecks only and became a caricature of his former self, imo. It’s the same pitfall De Niro and Pacino fell into, except they only did so much later in their careers. Just my two cents.

Besides, minor disagreement about Depp aside, we have a lot of common mentions in our lists. Wink

CristianMungiu is legend, masterclass.
His film techniques are creative, subtle, esp the camera work.

Beyond the Hills was another terrific piece of work.
That atmosphere he builds ....

Let’s try this,
6. Steven Seagal…

Seagal was just action hero, never acted,  his corny akido gimmick was too bad, its good category.

No, it’s in “it’s so bad it’s terrible” category, for whatever reason his filmes were very popular in here so all his garbage would get cinema screens space and prime Tv movies space…

But if you want actors that can act yet they put out a ton of terrible stuff you have Nic Cage and John Travolta (that actually paired in one of the best action movies - Face Off)

I fully agree that these are underrated!

The Naked Gun

I really hope you’ve seen the Police Squad series, then… Cool

nomadsoul - 21 September 2016 09:55 PM

Jcvd acted only in JCVD.

Before JCVD, he had already managed to surprise me with actual acting in In Hell (which ended up being surprisingly good).

Could I change your mind a little with Punch-Drunk Love?

My top 2 movies:

1) Back to the Future
2) 12 Angry Men

Honestly there are so many good movies I have seen that placing them now in any particular remaining order would feel unfair to ones I might forget to mention.
I have so many recommendations per genre.

Tonight I plan on watching Night of the Hunter. A 1955 classic that is runner-up to Citizen Kane on many ‘best of all time’ lists but somehow never got the same (cult-)status as last mentioned.

Here I try to fill in the remaining questions:

Top 3 performances:
1) Robert Downey Jr in Tropic Thunder
2) Denzel Washington in Training Day
3) -yet to be chosen

Fav actors in no particular order:
-Benicio del Toro
-Edward Norton
-Michael J. Fox

Fav actresses in no particular order:
-Natalie Portman
-Uma Thurman

Top 5 Directors
1) Quentin Tarantino
2) David Fincher
3) Martin Scorsese
4) Akira Kurosawa
5) Guy Ritchie

How about Reign over me? A pretty good drama with a great dramatic performance by Sandler.
Also, movie has surprise cameo by the game Shadow of the Colossus.

His greenish filter and aesthetic sense make him a winner for me.
