Some new adventure games were announced for the DS. Besides a new Nancy Drew game (check the main page) a sequel to Osawari Tantei Ozawa Rina (aka Touch Detective) was announced:
http://gonintendo.com/?p=12844 It's great to see more and more companies making brand new adventure games. Who said the genre was dead? |

I like Phoenix Wright, but you get to knowing what to expect after the first two or three cases, where I'm genuinely more intrigued by Hotel Dusk at this point (I think I'm on Ch. 6....?).

Finished "Phoenix Wright: Justice for all" a few minutes ago, and I cant wait untill there's a new release!
I also finished "Touch Detective" allready, and I do hope the sequel will be directed to a more mature audience, since I dont think the target-audience in the first game is really playing such games that much anymore... anyhow, Hotel Dusk is waiting for me, lemme just see if I can find my expartner in the next few days -fender-

Fair warning for Hotel Dusk, the game doesnt have a lot of puzzles and they are easy.. at least so far for me.

NekoCon 2006: Live-action Phoenix Wright
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5LsTQeLrJ4 Nice work !!! Professor Layton and the Mysterious Village trailer http://touch-ds.jp/crv/vol3/player.h...320&height=274 "Professor Layton and the Mysterious Village" was released today in Japan. It seems that this game will be a big seller. Because, famous japanese actors are appears as voice actor, and commercial messages are broadcasted and many train advertisements are put. Besides, the news of "Professor Layton and the Devils box" from the sequel to "Professor Layton and the Mysterious Village" was reported at "Weekly Famitu"(computer game magazine) , recently. It would have been nice if Justice For All had had a new case also.
Touch Detective was a little limiting in its interactions with the game world. Nicely written, though, and funny in places. I'm playing Hotel Dusk at the moment. Just started it, actually. The lead character has a slightly annoying personality. If you can get past the language barrier, I would recommend the following: Kenshuui Tendo Dokuta Kenshuui Tendo Dokuta 2: Inochi no Tenbin The Kanshikikan - Kinkyuu Shutsudou!! Jiken Genba wo Touch Seyo All of the above are similar in tone and gameplay mechanics to the Phoenix Wright games, and all are worthy of a english translation. |

I've just finished the first Phoenix Wright game, and OMG I am so in love. I've recently played Runaway, and what a disappointment it was! I couldn't even bring myself to finish it, it was so lackluster in every respect. I thought if this was the genre's future, then, well... *sigh* Butbutbut. I bought the DS to play Japanese-style RPGs, but I was very pleased (and surprised!) to find good adventure games on the platform. Another Code (I bought it with my DS) was very short, but quite interesting, Phoenix Wright was awesome and now I've just started Touch Detective.
I'm very surprised to see the negative reviews (Metacritic average: 60/100) when I enjoy it much more than I did Another Code. And it's a real gosurori game! I wonder if the low ratings it received were due to 1. reviewers not knowing what adventure games are (eg. IGN laments the bad AI. Huh? AI?! In a point-and-click adventure?) 2. adventure gamers turned off by the game design (ie. gosurori style) I think the only problem I could name up till now (OK, i've just started) is that there is no highlighting for usable objects. That's all. And the music is kind of repetitive. But everything else is Just Fine. I thought I'd install ScummVM first of all (I have the cards and stuff) but I haven't run out of native DS adventure games yet... I still have Phoenix Wright Justice for All and Hotel Dusk to play. |
