TragicoMedia’s Tourist Trap: A South American Adventure Awaits

Tourist Trap, a 2D hand-drawn point & click adventure game, has announced its release date as the 15th of November, 2023. Developed by TragicoMedia, a two-man indie team composed of Manuel González and Juan Andrés Nin, the game is set to be published on PC (Steam) and Xbox.

Set in the fictional South American tourist town of Santa Ballena, Tourist Trap introduces players to Lucas, a young tourist guide. Lucas finds himself entangled in a conspiracy involving local abductions and an evil foreign corporation pulling the strings behind the scenes of the town. The game boasts a strong focus on narrative, with light puzzle-solving elements thrown into the mix. The mechanics are kept simple, requiring only one button for interactions, and the gameplay time is estimated to be between 2-3 hours.

The game's director, Manuel González Larrauri, shared his artistic vision for Tourist Trap. He explained that the game's plot draws heavily from his personal experiences growing up in a working-class family in Punta del Este, Uruguay. The narrative also explores the parallels between the touristification of towns and the cultural industries in the global south.

Tourist Trap started as a small project funded by Uruguay's Ministry of Culture in 2020. In 2021, TragicoMedia joined the ID@XBOX Developer Acceleration Program, which allowed the team to release the game on Xbox consoles and complete the game's development.

Tourist Trap is now available on Steam for wishlisting . For more information, follow TragicoMedia on their Twitter page or visit their website. Also, check out their YouTube channel for more updates and trailers.
