Don't envy the valentine's day mad couples you singles. They are paying through the nose in restaurants for meals not substantially different from those served on other days. They are putting themselves through things they hate because they think their loved one enjoys them (little suspecting that halff the time their loved one is doing the same thing) They are paying out for bits of cards with sentiments they don't mean any more. I think you'll find fewer Valentine's couples are having a happy day than you think. Mrs Urhan and I do cards it's true. However, they are just one little thing among many scattered randomly throughout the year by which we show our love for each other. We're in love 365 days a year so who needs a special day for that. EDIT . Cue some "romantic" songs I Hold Your Hand in Mine - Tom Lehrer Melanie - Weird Al Yanowicz One More Minute - Weird Al Yankowicz Next Ex Girlfriend - Bowling for Soup

I thought That Do I Creep You Out was a better Weird Al Yankovic love song.

How about this timeless classic from our old pal Trapezoid: Being Alone on Valentine's Day

The university gods have done me a favour, methinks, for timetabling assessments for Tuesday; it means that I'm quite happy to be holed up in the library working.
Not happy about the assessments, mind you. 'Tis a good thing that the marks don't really count for anything... |

I'm feeling extremely down, I can't stand Valentine's Day and the fact that it feels like I'm going to be alone forever...

I'm sorry a lot of you feel down today. *hugs all around*
To some who think they'll never get a soulmate-I know you hear everyone say "it'll come", and just want to roll your eyes. I thought the same awhile back, that all I'd know was pain, and it took me until I was nearing the bottom before mine came. Yes, it seems like you'll never find the person right for you, but one day it will happen. HUGS FOR EVERYONE!!!! And even if you don't have a significant other today, remember that I love you!!!

Valentines day... makes you lonely if you're single and is loads of hassle if you're with someone, to be honest it's about as romantic as a chest infection!
Unfortunately I didn't get the job I had a second interview for either. Back to square one again... |

Yesterday, for Valentine's Day, my wife and I went out and spent ridiculous amounts of money on things like books and Wii games. Then we came home and played Legend of Spyro, ordered pizza, and played Broken Sword on the Wii, which was more fun than I'd expected, despite some wiimote response time frustration. I'm actually enjoying playing an AG again, which feels so nice. Then i sat up and read a piece of fanfic a very dear friend wrote for me based on one of my novels, and I chatted for a while with another dear friend who has been sort of in hiding for several months, due to some debilitating anxiety issues. All in all, a rather nice evening, even if I didn't get to chat with a certain someone I'd hoped to.
And now, for those who fall into the Anti-Valentines category, a song written by a friend of mine: Paper Valentines Enjoy. |

Can I just take a moment and scream here to vent about the fact that my wife lost her €500 wedding ring?

@Little Writer - I feel your pain! Mrs Degree is always taking off her engagement and wedding rings and leaving them around the place. Luckily they've always turned up so far, but once I had to go down the communal bins outside our flat to rescue them!
Honestly, if I lost my wedding ring i'd be in major trouble, but when girls lose theirs it's never their fault... |

Ironic thing is, usually she never takes hers off.
I take mine off for doing the dishes, prep food, shower/bath, basically everything that can get my hands wet/dirty. And I don't wear it in bed either. I'm always worried I'll lose it, and you'll see me subconsciously checking whether it's still there all day long. Yet she takes it off once to rub her hands with lotion to protect them against the cold, while on a train from the capital back home after a work-related seminar, only to find it missing about three hours later after dinner with her co-workers. At least she thinks that's when she took it off. Apparently they were having so much fun she can't remember.
