Still love Tex
Overall I enjoyed this game, despite the fact it became too much for me to finish (couldn’t bear the increasing intensity at the very end). I found it to be all over the place which made it hard for any sort of immersion. So it was easy for me to discard story resolution. Although I felt very disconnected, I love the characters and style, as it was very reminiscent of Tex games from back in the day.
I gave it 3 stars because towards the end [POSSIBLE SPOILER: it became too dungeon hunting and scary]. While I understand this does not put off many players, being scared/anxious/worried are emotions I don’t enjoy and opt out of when there is a choice to do so. When I was younger, I liked those elements (to some extent).
I also did not like the fact that I was bombarded with puzzles, most of which I enjoyed but a few (2) that thoroughly killed my enthusiasm for completing the story and further destroyed any previously held ambitions to play additional story arcs and endings. The puzzles, I feel should logically tie into the story and most of the time I found them to be there for the sake of “eeking” out additional gameplay hours. That is, however, in accordance with other Tex games from what I recall so it wasn’t unexpected just e x h a u s t i v e.
I would’ve liked to have seen an option to switch from gamer mode to casual, like in the previous games. Playing on gamer mode there isn’t a way to bypass any of the more annoying elements. I experienced only one glitch and it was minor. The actors were great and I was excited to play this game. For the most part, I think the developers did a great job.
