The Protagonish: An NPC’s Tale

In a delightful twist that sets it apart from traditional adventure games, The Protagonish by College Fun Games invites players to step into the shoes of four typical NPCs (non-playing characters) in a quaint village. Instead of focusing on the exploits of the brave knight, Sir Sandford, the game offers a unique insider's view of the village life, which is disrupted by an outsider's quest. Players can take on the roles of a village shopkeeper, a silent monk, a concussed miner, and a mysterious creature that the knight is determined to conquer.

The Protagonish is a short point-and-click adventure game that promises approximately 20 minutes of gameplay. However, it features multiple endings and character arcs, encouraging players to engage in multiple playthroughs. The game is marked by its humor and family-friendly content, with hand-drawn characters and locations. Additionally, the game boasts a full score performed on real Celtic instruments and a professional voice cast featuring stars from the Edinburgh stand-up and stage scene. The game is set to release in September 2024 on Steam and itch.io for Windows, Mac, Linux, and Web. You can check out the announce trailer here:

College Fun Games is a new game studio based in Edinburgh, Scotland, with The Protagonish being their first title. The studio was founded by Daniel Turner, a veteran software developer with a decade of experience and a newfound passion for game development. Despite its status as a fun experiment by a team that's new to game development, The Protagonish is already making waves. The studio is committed to creating a healthy work environment devoid of 'crunch', encouraging creativity, and promoting flexibility. They are already in the process of writing, designing, and recruiting for their next full-length title, set to be announced in 2025.
