BURN: The Pop Star tragedy visual novel

Convict Games has announced the upcoming release of its new visual novel game, BURN, slated for August 9, 2024. This interactive story game promises a unique take on the pop star tragedy, with multiple endings and replayable choices that unravel the full narrative.

BURN puts players in the shoes of Nina BURN, the world's biggest pop star at a critical juncture in her career, offering an engaging journey that spans over three acts in her life. The game challenges players to make choices that will ultimately dictate the direction of Nina's career – will she revolutionize the pop music scene or become a monstrous figure in the industry? The game's first ending can be reached within 15 minutes, making it an easy-to-finish story for every player. Watch the gameplay reveal here:

The game's narrative structure is designed to adapt with every playthrough, with dialogue choices altering Nina's style, her conversations, the adaptive musical score, and the game's 16 potential outcomes. The creators of BURN describe it as a character study and a reflection on the cost of fame. The game has been in development since the start of the COVID-19 lockdown in February 2020, drawing inspiration from the music industry, pop stars, body horror, and classic music bio cinema and documentaries. BURN is available for pre-purchase on Steam.

BURN breaks the mold of typical 3D adventure games, focusing solely on interactive storytelling through dialogue choices and specific interactables. The game boasts high-quality animations and voice-overs that adjust based on player choices throughout the game. Interestingly, players never get to hear the music that Nina, the in-game pop star, creates and is revered for. Instead, the game features a composed soundtrack of multiple genres, which changes with each playthrough, creating a dynamic atmosphere that gets lighter or darker based on player choices and replays.
