SpaceVenture’s Unity Transition: An ongoing journey

The developers of SpaceVenture have shared an important update on the project's progress. The team has worked tirelessly throughout the year to transition their game onto the newer Unity platform. This was after discovering that the older platform they'd initially used, due to the licenses they'd purchased years ago, could only produce SpaceVenture on Windows and Linux. At the same time, their intentions are to release it on Mac, Android, and iOS as well, which isn't possible with the older platform.

The update reveals that the transition to the newer Unity engine has been a major undertaking, with the team going scene by scene to address issues arising from the upgrade. Ken Williams' Cygnus team initially supported the project, but due to the need to focus on their own game, "Colossal Cave Adventure", the SpaceVenture team is now solely responsible for the Unity engine and tool utilization. In this process of transitioning to the new engine, they are also addressing bugs, as reported by Kickstarter backers, who have had access to an earlier version of the game already.

The SpaceVenture team is aware of the anticipation for the game to be released on Steam, but they've emphasized the importance of making a positive first impression on the platform. The team mentioned they are relying on income from Steam to cover reward shipping costs; as such, they believe it to be crucial to ensure player satisfaction. They're committed to stabilizing the game on the new Unity platform and addressing any concerns before its release. Once everything is stable, an updated build will be released to everyone, including Steam keys, when the game is launched there.

The SpaceVenture team remains resilient, thanking everyone for their patience and assuring players that they're not giving up. As we approach the new year, we can look forward to more updates and, hopefully, the launch of SpaceVenture on Steam.
