Whitethorn Games has announced an updated release date for their environmental thriller, The Forest Cathedral, now set to launch on PlayStation 5 on November 7, 2023. Drawing inspiration from the events surrounding real-life scientist Rachel Carson's investigation of the harmful pesticide DDT, the game invites players to explore the mysterious Science Island, which mirrors the grandeur of Cook Forest State Park's Forest Cathedral.
The Forest Cathedral is an immersive reimagining of Carson's environmental science book "Silent Spring". Players assume the role of Rachel, who takes up a field research biologist position on a mysterious island. As she completes her weekly tasks, it becomes evident that things are far from what they initially seemed. The game beautifully intertwines 3D exploration and 2D platforming, challenging players to solve puzzles using advanced environmental technology. The crux of the game lies in uncovering the horrific effects of the pesticide DDT; a truth many will attempt to suppress.
The game features several key elements that contribute to its immersive gameplay. "Hey, Little Man" allows players to switch control between Rachel Carson in the 3D world and the Little Man inside the 2D world of her advanced environmental scanning tools.
