Best Games In The Metaverse

The current hottest concept in the digital space is the idea of the metaverse. But what exactly is it? Opinions range from the metaverse being the future of the internet, to it being a video game, to it being a fad, and sometimes, it has even been called a more uncomfortable version of Zoom.

However, the consensus so far reflects that when technology companies refer to the metaverse, they are discussing virtual reality, one that has virtual worlds that exist even when you are not playing, and augmented reality that combines aspects of the digital and virtual worlds, enhancing your experience. It can also be called a network of 3d virtual worlds focused on social connection.

The burgeoning gaming industry has utilized this metaverse. The gaming industry is projected to reach a revenue of 361 billion by 2036, and in 2021, Tencent, the world’s largest gaming company, was valued at 1 trillion dollars.

The way that the gaming industry uses the metaverse is simple. The gaming industry is using blockchain technology to create games that offer a homologous experience to gamers all across the world at the same time, indistinguishable from real life.

Blockchain technology helps here because, in blockchain technology, information is stored and verified using immutable cryptographic symbols called hashes. These hashes are bunched together in a block, connected to each other, thereby giving the technology its name.

Blockchain helps provide the platform for the game to offer a specific experience to the users because of the benefits it provides, such as information protection, security, authentication, etc. Using this can also mean that people can get paid for the time they spend playing the games, which is why these games are also called P2E or Play to Earn games.

The gaming industry's experience through the metaverse is one wherein the games are interconnected worlds where you can convert in-game tokens to fiat currency and trade and sell your avatars and in-game items. These freedoms ensure that these kinds of games are extremely popular. Having said that, let’s take a look at the best games in the metaverse right now-:

  1. Axie Infinity

This game, released by a Vietnamese startup in 2018, was influenced by Pokemon. In this game, users collect fantasy features called Axies, and the players can breed the Axies, raise these Axies, collect them and even trade them. Every creature has over 500 customisable body parts. The powers of the Axies and their characteristics are based on their combinations. You can both pursue for treasure or fight other Axies for rewards.

  2. Decentraland

A game founded in 2020, Decentraland utilises Mana cryptocurrency that can be used to create avatars, and you can also acquire wearables and purchase real estate in this game that consists of 900000 land parcels. Land can also be rented out, and you can earn revenue by organizing concerts and retailing tickets.

  3. Sandbox

A mobile game first launched by Pixelfowl cofounders; this is a platform which users have generated. In this game, you become an owner of whatever you create using blockchain. You can also obtain and trade land in this game.

  4. Illuvium

Illuvium has been described as “a true triple-A, 3d blockchain game”. This game requires you to hunt for beings called Illuvials, arrest them using shards, and bring their health back up. You can then use these creatures to fight other creatures or players. You can find weapons and armor in the environment itself.
