I can’t recall if Ramana Maharshi was featured in The Witness, but he certainly fits within its themes and it’s on an island so that’s my guess.
Ah, we have a winner!
AFAIK Ramana Maharshi is not mentioned in The Witness, but the spiritual “school” of Advaita is based on his teachings. Two of the six videos are talks by Advaita teachers and guess who is also into Advaita… Jonathan Blow!
PS: Would you say the “protagonist” is male, based on your shadow, or AFGNCAAP?
I had a hunch it was The Witness from the second tou chose it just based on your love for that game. If only I had guessed wildly

Hmm. Broken Sword came out in ‘96, is set in Europe and fits most of the clues (I’m not sure whether it counts as serious) but definitely has voice acting. The Beast Within is definitely serious but again, voiced.
