Adventure Game Scene of the Day — Thursday 22 November 2012
Here in the US we’re entering 5 excruciating weeks of nauseating good sentiments laced with unabashed commercialism so I thought it’d be a good time to post a scene from one of the very few games that let you play a real, bona fide villain: Cryo’s Salammbo (I almost typed “Kheops” there, since it was made by the guys who would found Kheops a couple of years later, and it feels very much like a Kheops game).
I’ve never heard of this game but by god that frame is /ugly/. Why would anyone ever choose to go for that - it reminds me of Will Smiths clothing from the early 90’s!
Actually, the game is renowned for having a stylish graphics (perhaps a bit too strong colors for my taste) and for a good reason, as comic artist Philippe Druillet worked on it.
Recently finished: Four Last Things 4/5, Edna & Harvey: The Breakout 5/5, Chains of Satinav 3,95/5, A Vampyre Story 88, Sam Peters 3/5, Broken Sword 1 4,5/5, Broken Sword 2 4,3/5, Broken Sword 3 85, Broken Sword 5 81, Gray Matter 4/5\nCurrently playing: Broken Sword 4, Keepsake (Let\‘s Play), Callahan\‘s Crosstime Saloon (post-Community Playthrough)\nLooking forward to: A Playwright’s Tale
I didn’t know there were games where you could play as a villain. That’s an extremely refreshing idea. Just put Salammbo on my to play list.

There’s Malcolms Revenge (Kyrandia 3), Ceville, and more recently, Lucius
Duckman: Can you believe it? Five hundred bucks for a parking ticket?
Cornfed Pig: You parked in a handicapped zone.
Duckman: Who cares? Nobody parks there anyway, except for the people who are supposed to park there and, hell, I can outrun them anytime.

Kyrandia 3 doesn’t count: Malcolm spends the entire game going on about how he’s not a real villain , didn’t murder the king but was actually trying to save him, etc. I actually hated that the designers chickened out and retconned the events from the first game rather than let players play an actual villain.
