First let me say that whatever happened, happened. There were many that wanted the poll to continue. So I’m going to give it a shot. This could not have been done without the help of TimovieMan, aka, the “other” Tim, who generously allowed me access to his game database. Which, in addition to others sources will depict the most popular games in any given year. I won’t get them all.
The games listed in the poll don’t indicate my preference for any of them. And that will continue in future polls. If a few fell into the wrong year, well, stuff happens.
I will only be doing the poll through 2004, because that’s when AG started doing its own version of “The Best Of”.
Other games not listed in the poll, but certainly deserving of consideration are:
Broke Sword: Shadow of the Templar
Lighthouse - The Dark Being
Lost Files of Sherlock Holmes- The Case of the Rose Tattoo
Timelapse - Ancient Civilizations The Link to Atlantis
Phantasmagoria II - A Puzzle of Flesh
Monty Python - The Quest for the Holy Grail
For whom the games toll,
they toll for thee.
Have to be Pandora Directive.
Got it for Xmas when I was 14 and I was mad excited. I must have played it for a week straight. It was everything UaKM was and more.
Wonder how much it sold?
BTW, why would you not put Broken Sword on the list?
Before I played Toonstruck I would have chosen Broken Sword, but now I have to go with Toonstruck.
Disclaimer: I have not played any of the Tex Murphy games.

nikka what
I must say I am loving this trip down memory lane with all the AGOTY threads
Unfortunately, I haven’t played any of those games. So I voted for ‘Other’.
I just can’t quite decide between Monty Python and Broken Sword…
but I think I will give it to Broken Sword.
I loved Monty Python but it was just a bit too short for my liking.
Plus Broken Sword was the first game I played after joining this forum.
Tex Murphy: The Pandora Directive without any doubt.
There are other good games this year like Broken Sword, Larry, Toonstruck, Discworld, Monty Python and Phantasmagoria, but none as good as TPD.

No Broken Sword on the list? That can’t be right. AFAIK it’s more popular than any of the other games here.
.
More than that: Broken Sword is one of the all-time bests and currently #4 on the AG Top 100. Positioning this game as one of those that didn’t make the cut just for the 1996 year is somewhat awkward
If Fade to Black is not your personal preference, then please explain how it wormed its way to your list of most popular games. It’s a totally obscure action-adventure! I bet you and “the other Tim” are the only ones here who have heard of it. The Martian Chronicles and Congo are odd choices as well, when Broken Sword is not on the list and a very popular game like The Neverhood is not even mentioned. Let alone some of my own favorites, like Bad Mojo and Spycraft...

You’d lose your bet, Karlok - I played Fade to Black. I’d agree it’s an odd choice over the others you mention, though, and I wouldn’t classify it as an Adventure.
That said, I loved Zork Nemesis enough not to mind too much not being able to vote for the others.
I’d vote for Broken Sword. It was also by far the most hyped adventure game the year it was released (at least in France).
BrokenSword ofcourse
Thanks Rtrooney
Its getting harder to pick only a number one in this and the coming years.
Number 1
Tex Murphy: The Pandora Directive
Close Second
Lighthouse: The Dark being

Honorable mention goes to
