Mr Danger’s Contest

Another game made in a month for the Monthly AGS competition (MAGS) back in 2009. MAGS often yields some surprisingly good results and this game is one of them.

When you break it down, it’s difficult to explain what it is that is so fascinating about this game, but there is something that makes it a great deal greater than the sum of its parts.

You play as James McManus, who receives an invitation from a man calling himself “Mr Danger” to come to his large mansion to compete against other “special people” in a competition to inherit millions of dollars.

Once there (why would you not go to the house of a possible madman you have never met on an invitation as spurious as this?! Wink ) it quickly becomes apparent that everyone invited has some kind of special ability, for instance the power to interfere with magnetic fields, and that the contest - to be the first person to touch Mr Danger - isn’t going to be as straightforward as it may sound.

As you would expect from a game like this, things take a rather deadly twist, and you are left not only looking for Mr Danger, but for someone who seems to be wiping out the contestants.

The graphics are simple and range from OK to poor, being largely tracings of photographs and all the sound effects were made by the creator using only a microphone and his own voice.

Despite everything, this is a very impressive effort for one month’s work and the plot is more than interesting enough to justify any qualms you may have over the graphics etc.

There is something almost Agatha Christie like about the premise, with a sci-fi twist, and if that sounds like your sort of thing then you can’t go wrong with an hour spent on this game.

Thanks Intense Degree, I really like the look of the game & am tempted to play it from your description. Also, it’s always good to know about interesting games that you can play within a couple of hours instead of starting a longer game that you know you won’t have time to continue for at least a few days & therefore usually losing the plot-flow!    Smile
