I’m a 68 year old grandma, now I have more time to play. My wish would be if I could continue to play the Carol Reed games.
I’ve already played through the first six games, I’d like to play the next games, but my problem is, they’re all in English. Which I can’t understand.
Can anyone tell me if I can somehow play them on german?
Would be very grateful for that.

Hi!

The only way would be a fan translation, but unfortunately I haven’t been able to find one for Blue Madonna.

Maybe you should try that with the rest (it is more likely someone has translated the most modern ones…)

Currently translating Strangeland into Spanish. Wish me luck, or send me money to my Paypal haha

There’s two hypothetical technical options:

a) a text hook. Games often have their text output in a process that with the right software you can capture and then auto-translate. But I got no clue about the engine the Carol Reed mysteries use so I wouldn’t know whether there’s anything available for them or whether some generic solution would even work.

b) a screen translator. There’s software that can recognize text on screen and auto-translate it, or send it to a translator software. OCR (optical character recognition) software is needed, for example Capture2Text, FreeOCR etc. Then you send that text for example to Google Translate. Success depends on the font, background, etc. Basically “clearer” text works better.

Either way both is a bit of a pain and the translation will be of questionable quality. You get what you get ^^; Can be fun to fiddle around with on its own I suppose but obviously is quite different from playing a translated game.

Thanks for the quick reply.

The way I see it, I guess I’ll have to forget the games.

What I don’t realize is that the first six games are with German subtitles, and
the other games, which have certainly been further developed, can only be played in English. It’s just a shame, but can’t be changed.

Your English looks quite good to me. Especially for someone who doesn’t speak the language.
Btw, you’re the first person from Germany that I’ve met who doesn’t speak English.

I thought ALL Germans, Dutches and Swedes were fluent in English.

Probably they considered that sales in Germany didn’t worth the cost of the translation. Believe me, people who speak Spanish suffer that all the time. Right, Dave Gilbert?

I thought ALL Germans, Dutches and Swedes were fluent in English.

These days that’d be true (English is mandatory in school nowadays), but for older Germans not necessarily, and in Eastern Germany the second language would have been Russian (Angela Merkel for example speaks Russian but barely any English) so there the chances are even worse.
