Status of text adventures on Adventure Gamers
I’ve been curious about this since I started coming to this site, and a discussion in another thread got me thinking.
Not intended as a criticism at all, I was just wondering whether the reason there aren’t any reviews of them and they aren’t included in the Top 100 is because people dislike them, or they’ve been forgotten, or some other reason like no reviews have been written for them?
They are pretty old and archaic but certainly not inferior to graphical games. There’s some brilliant stuff out there like Infocom’s whole catalog. But I could see why, if people aren’t interested in them, there’s no need to cover them on the website.
Actually the Infocom Adventures are No. 50 on the list.
An adventure game is nothing more than a good story set with engaging puzzles that fit seamlessly in with the story and the characters, and looks and sounds beautiful.

Most commercial text adventures were released before this site ever existed, which is why we’ve never reviewed most of them. And there simply aren’t many new ones anymore.
Having said that, we’re reviewing CYPHER; article should be out this week.
