Casual Game Playthrough #14 - Emerald City Confidential
Welcome everyone to the Emerald City Confidential casual playthrough
ECC was developed by Wadget Eye in 2009. It is a game about a P.I. named Petra, struggling through a corrupted and noir style version of the well-known world of Oz. We will meet almost all known characters and their stories. The world and characters are well presented through cute graphics and the voice acting is great too!
The game’s well-written story is perhaps its biggest asset. In the intro, after we get a small taste of the ECC world, a mysterious and rich young woman hires us (a humble P.I) to find her missing fiancee. What starts like a somewhat cliche starting mission met in many noir stories (ECC, Discworld Noir, etc) will soon unravel that much more important things are in stake…
The game is very different from the majority of casuals you may have played up to now. First of all, it is a 2d third person one. It works like a traditional P&C and the controls are really easy to get familiar with. It is a fairly easy game since the majority of its riddles are inventory use. Later in the game we will use known spells to get around various situations. In reality they work like elaborate inventory use, but it is an element really well-integrated within the game.
I believe that it is fairly easy to divide the game into 5 weekly chapters.
In these first days though, you will have some time to obtain the game and see if it works properly.
Please confirm below if you have the game and you are ready to go. Also tell us if this is your first run of the game.
If we are all ok, we will begin the first chapter at the 3rd of December.
A duplicate from the other thread, but yes, I’m ready to go. I have played the game before.
For whom the games toll,
they toll for thee.
The game is loaded and I’m ready to go. I played this game when it first released, so this will be my second playthrough.
Ready to go. Second time through for me.
I have it installed and am ready for a replay as well. I’ve forgotten quite a bit of the story, which is good.
Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations.
Loaded and ready to go. As usual, this will be my first time playing this game.
The truth can’t hurt you, it’s just like the dark: it scares you witless but in time you see things clear and stark. - Elvis Costello
Maybe this time I can be strong, but since I know who I am, I’m probably wrong. Maybe this time I can go far, but thinking about where I’ve been ain’t helping me start. - Michael Kiwanuka
Ready. I started this game one Christmas a few years ago but didn’t finish it because it was a busy Christmas. Don’t really know if I played it that far but at least poked around a bit.
Currently Playing: Dragon Age Origins: Awakening
Recently Played: Red Embrace: Hollywood, Dorfromantik, Heirs & Graces, AI: The Somnium Files, PRICE, Frostpunk, The Shapeshifting Detective (CPT), Disco Elysium, Dream Daddy, Four Last Things, Jenny LeClue - Detectivu, The Signifier
I just went back and checked the vote. There were seven votes, so everyone is accounted for. Except anyone who wants to join after the fact.
Edit: I probably should have said that everybody who voted for the game has checked in. Clearer than saying we had seven votes and currently have seven players.

I didn’t realize that Emerald City Confidential was a casual game. I always thought it was a classic adventure game because Wadget Eye published it. I already have the game in my to-play list and I have a few free cycles, so I’ll be joining you guys with this playthrough

Take a look at the 13 February AGSotD thread.

I know. But let’s see if there are more people like SoccrDude28 that didn’t vote and want to join in time anyway. It is just one more day after all.

I don’t think you read the last sentence of what I said.
I’m patient. It’s actually usually better for me if we start on a Saturday. That way all the weekday problems of life are out of the way.

I’ve played the game before but couldn’t find it anywhere until yesterday when I realised I’d downloaded it from BFG. I’ve re-installed it & hoping to join in!
I can see that we are all ready to start!!
You have one week (until the 10th of December) to reach the point where Trot gives you the “Investigate Captain Bill” quest.
Arrived. Don’t know if I got there fast because of my memory of the game, or whether it’s because my wife wanted to watch something on the TV and I was relegated to playing the game. It took me a little over 1.5 hours.
But I had a slight head start because I played through the bridge sequence in order to get the AGSotD screenshot I wanted. So that is where I actually started.
From here on out, we’re all on equal footing.

Tim—you’re speedy. I’m an hour and a half in and still going. Did you swallow all the knowledge pills and read the results?
All universities should have this clever device. Though a lot of professors would be out of a job. Hmmm. Strike that. Destroy the knowledge pill machine!
