Vagabond Starship News and Updates
Hello again, Adventure Gamers!
Work has been coming along nicely on Vagabond Starship, and I thought I’d start this thread to give updates and share what we have as we go along. Vagabond Starship is the 5th game in the Sir Typhil’s Tale series after Unicorn Dungeon, Poltergeist Treasure, Leprechaun Shadow, and Alien Function.
No launch date yet to announce. There will be a Steam page up very soon, though, and I’ll be sure to announce that here.
For now, I have a few screenshots. Enjoy!
Looks like a hybrid between Star Trek and Star Wars…
The truth can’t hurt you, it’s just like the dark: it scares you witless but in time you see things clear and stark. - Elvis Costello
Maybe this time I can be strong, but since I know who I am, I’m probably wrong. Maybe this time I can go far, but thinking about where I’ve been ain’t helping me start. - Michael Kiwanuka
Indeed. It is a space sci fi parody so elements from Star Trek, Star Wars and others :-)
Vagabond Starship now has a Steam page with a trailer!

There is now a playable demo for vagabond Starship! See the Steam link in the previous post to get it for yourself.
As part of Steam NextFest, this weekend there will also be two livestreams of the demo, one by the music composer, and the other by one of the voice actors from the previous games.
By the way, if anyone has thoughts on the demo or the game in general, feel free to post and I’ll respond. I’m not just drive-by posting here. I check for replies multiple times a day.

This kind of opportunity, to speak directly with game developers, is one of my favorite parts of participating on this forum. I don’t play too many demos, but please keep posting about your game. It looks cool and like something I’d enjoy playing.

Thank you. I also appreciate being able to communicate with the developers I like, so I seek to be as accessible as possible.

I would like to play this series of games but the fact they’re only available through Steam us a barrier to me. I have a staunch policy on not supporting DRM enabled platforms such as Steam. If you ever made the games available through GOG or as a DRM free purchase on an independent site, I would buy them for sure.
I have good news for you, my friend. None of my games have any DRM at all. Steam does not put DRM on games. It’s the developers who do that. Yes, Steam does provide a way to add DRM to games, but many (if not most) developers don’t use it. Steam is a very convenient way to push updates and bug fixes. If Steam suddenly stopped working tomorrow, you could still play my games.
Oh and also the game will be available on Itch as well. This demo is for Steam Next Fest so it’s only on Steam for now, but all of my games I also put on Itch.

That’s good of you but I refuse to support Steam in any way whatsoever, even if that means not downloading DRM free games from them. I don’t believe that any game should require a separate client to download the installer. It’s an anti-consumer practice and I refuse to support such things.

That’s great news. I’ve had a look on itch.io but have been unable to locate the games (or at least the first one - Sir Typhil’s Tale, I believe?). Is it possible for you to link to the relevant pages on itch.io here, or send me a PM with the links?
Sir Typhil’s Tale is the name of the entire series but not the name of any game. Here are links to all of the games on Itch in order:
https://standoffsoftware.itch.io/unicorn-dungeon
https://standoffsoftware.itch.io/poltergeist-treasure
https://standoffsoftware.itch.io/leprechaun-shadow
https://standoffsoftware.itch.io/alien-function

Great! Thank you. I’ll purchase them when I next get paid.
