Adventure Game Scene of the Day - Friday 22 August 2014
In Dark Secrets (2012), the 1st game by Swedish Indie developers DreamCraft Entertainment, you play as Arthur who returns to an isolated Scandinavian village following the recent death of ‘your’ father. A strange object found in the antique shop ‘you’ve’ just inherited provides the catalyst to unravelling what I found to be a well thought-out & engaging mystery, albeit a little far-fetched.
The 3D environments are lovely although I didn’t care for the WASD keys + mouse interface, the characters aren’t so well realised or voiced, with dialogue appearing as subtitles, & although there is a variety of puzzles they are for the most part on the easy side with too many lock-pick ones included. I didn’t encounter any of the glitches reported by other players but unfortunately there is a lot of misspelling, typos & mislabelling of objects. Despite the negative aspects I really liked the game – am I the only one?
I recall you posted screenshots from this game in a forlorn topic.
That was the first time I heard of it.
This is the second time.
Thanks, Chrissie.

Wow zobraks! - you’ve got such a good memory as although I do vaguely remember posting the screenshot of the boat somewhere I don’t recall posting the 2nd shot! Zifnab who guessed it correctly I gleaned wasn’t very impressed with the game!

Open your mouth (wide) and I’ll tell you.
You’d never guess what I’m playing (trying to play, actually) at the moment.

Dark Secrets?

Yes, it did to me too. Unfortunately that intrigue disappears after about an hour into the game.
Chrissie do you know if they have patched the game up yet? I could imagine the game being at least 50% better with a proper patch.

Hi Oscar, I’ve just been trying to track down where I bought the game from & it turns out to be a download from The Adventure Shop (which was relatively cheap) in March 2012 - the version is V1.0. I don’t recall having to download a patch & found the game ran very smoothly except for a couple of occasions where it suddenly minimised itself to desktop but didn’t actually crash. I didn’t experience any of the many glitches that have been reported. You obviously already have the game so I’m guessing that there’s a good likelihood of a patch being available - or it just might be a case that it works on some systems & not others?
EDIT: It does seem that a patch was made & integrated into the download versions from The Adventure Shop & GamersGate but I couldn’t find a ‘stand-alone’ one….
Open your mouth (wide) and I’ll tell you.
I’m all ears!

That’s right, we’d never guess.

Great choices. Callahan’s is a must-play and Roberta Williams’ dark side is so much more fun now compared to then. Enjoy the incredibly bad acting.

Wait, Roberta has a light side!? In between her finding 500 ways to kill us in the KQ games and traumatizing us in Phantasmagoria, I didn’t really notice.
You really do learn something every day!

He’s playing Callahan’s Crosstime Saloon and Phantasmagoria at the same time?! What is he trying to do, scare himself to death and then piss himself laughing?
