You are almost there! Here’s another example of friendly chat in this world:

A: What brings you down here ... looking for a client?
B: Nope, somebody’s got to work while others drink coffee and eat donuts all day. How else would things get done?

B: I know it’s foolish for me to get angry at inanimate objects, but you make me mad anyway. You’re so lazy you’ve become a landmark! You’ve been sitting on that butt of your’s just getting soft like the stay puff marshmellow man.
A: I know I’m going soft in the head from talking to you, ... What do you want? What?!

Since Baron Blubba mysteriously disappeared from his own thread and nobody else has tried to guess the game since the last year, I’ll name it: it’s Martian Memorandum aka Tex Murphy 2. Guess I won Feel free to come up with a new line.

I was going to say I had played the game recently, but the community playthrough of it was almost 6 years ago.  The quote rang a small bell in the back of my brain, but your hint brought it clanging to the front.  I’ll be back later with something new.
