Gabriel Knight 1 GOG Version - Sound Delay in specific areas
Good day,
I apologize if this has been posted before but the search engine did not turn anything about this subject for me.
I bought the GOG version of the first Gabriel Knight game (the original one not the 20th anniversary edition) and I am experiencing some sound delays in some areas.
Specifically I am talking about areas where there is both music and sound effects (like the fire crackling in Malia’s house; the tap dancing in Jackson Square; people talking in the Napoleon bar). In those areas speech tends to be delayed by 3-5 seconds before it kicks in.
I found many helpful posts on the GOG forums that go back to 2010-2012. Most of them talk about messing around the resource.cfg and dosboxgk.conf. I tried many recommendations from changing the CPU Cycles to trying different settings for sounds but nothing fixed the issue. I even extracted the iso file so I can reinstall the game myself on Dosbox but the issue persists.
I created a post describing my problem a month ago but haven’t gotten an answer yet ( the experts that use to help people with these problems stopped posting 4-5 years ago).
So I was wondering if someone can take a look at my specs and config files to see if they have some solution they can provide. If not I think I am just going to skip playing this for now until I get my hand on an older computer.
Below are my specs and resource.cfg file. I will post my dosboxgk.conf on a separate post.
Many thanks in advance

A couple of ideas:
1) In resource.cfg, change the value of audioDrv to DACBLAST.DRV
2) In the dosbox config file, set sbtype to sb16
Nothing jumps to mind beyond that.
Thank you for your answer. It didn’t work unfortunately
I might continue tickering with it. I made a save when Gabriel is meeting with Malia (with the fire crackling). I am using it to make some tests. Hopefully something may work…or I can just borrow a laptop and hope for a better result
The use of DACTHUND.DRV is to address noise that you can get with the DACBLAST.DRV. In the RESOURCE.CFG try adding “audiosize = 63k”.
In the end I managed to beat it with Scummvm with the help of one of its managers who helped me get rid of the glitches. It runs extremely well on it. There is also hope the game will become officially supported with the engine in afew months/next year?
I did try your audiosize solution but it didn’t work sadly. The good people at GOG also sent me a very detail solution where I had to uninstall/reinstall directx but nope. Nothing.
I also did try the game on another computer and got the same problem on it. Either not a lot of people play GK in this day and age to be annoyed by this problem or I just happen to be lucky and end up with the only problematic version.
I will get back to the game in a few weeks as I intend to finish it a 2nd time with max score.
Nonetheless I appreciate the swift help for this whether for Scummvm or DOSBOX.
