Magnus Imago to become real in early February

If at first you experience Magnus Failure, try, try again. At least, that's the plan for indie developer Sons of Welder, who have unveiled the second game in their surreal adventure series, Magnus Imago.

While story details are as vague as they were the last time around, players control a man who must wander the "mysterious world around him" in order to discover the truth about himself. The protagonist's journey is meant to represent a "soul's wandering," in which you will encounter a variety of "characters, traces and symbols," as well as a number of objects to collect and combine to solve puzzles along the way.

As with the previous game, Magnus Imago is a predominantly black-and-white "atmospheric" adventure with a raw, hand-sketched aesthetic. Unlike before, the presentation is neither isometric nor keyboard-controlled, but rather a slideshow-style first-person format with directional arrows to navigate. The "ambiguous" sights and sounds depicted are intended to be open to interpretation, as the narrative promises to be "filled with a language of symbols which may direct the player into a deeper philosophical reflection."

If you're up for a little deeper-level musing, you don't have long to wait as Magnus Imago is due to be launched on Steam for Windows PC on February 2nd. Better yet, there's more planned where that came from, as the next game in the series already has a title, Magnus: phototaxis positive, though nothing more about it has yet been revealed.
