Castle of Secrets to open its doors next month

In adventure games, being dead is often the beginning of a journey rather than the end, as there always seems to be unfinished business to tend to before moving on. The next such release to take place in the afterlife will be Aliens games' Castle of Secrets, which is due to arrive on PC late next month.

A young woman named Susan was once doted upon by her loving parents until her father's untimely demise "under mysterious circumstances." With her mother still grieving in despair, her family quickly arranged another marriage to the seemingly upstanding Mr. Austin. Life for Susan improved for a while with her new stepfather as head of the family. However, this respite proved to be short-lived, and soon misery struck again, "as if a black cat ran like some misfortune, sowing evil and curses." And then someone killed Susan. The next thing she knows, Susan awakes in land of the dead, where she must bravely venture out in order to learn the identity of the killer afflicting her entire accursed family.

Described as a dark "fairy tale of reality and mystery," Castle of Secrets promises a fully voiced, story-driven psychological horror experience set in a grim 3D world of hand-drawn 2D characters and animations. While controlled through simple point-and-click, the environment will rotate in 90-degree increments, allowing you to move in the four cardinal directions. There will be many items to collect and combine in your travels, and a "variety of puzzles with different difficulty levels" to solve. There are over thirty distinct characters to meet as well, some friends and some foes but each with their own unique personality, and how the "plot twists" play out will depend on your decisions along the way.

Castle of Secrets isn't far off, as it's on track to launch on Steam for Windows PC on April 30th. In the meantime, you can brush up on more background through the Trantons family history video.
