The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit uncloaked

DONTNOD is on fire! Along with the recent release of the supernatural RPG Vampyr, the E3 announcement of the psychological mystery Twin Mirror, and ongoing production on Life Is Strange 2, now the French developer has surprised us all by revealing a FREE mini-episode set in the Life Is Strange universe called The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit.

No, you won't be seeing Chloe or Max or other favourites from the original game, as this one stars a 10-year-old boy named Chris. Like most boys his age, Chris "dreams of being a superhero." The only child to a single father who drinks too much, Chris doesn't have many friends and is often forced to play alone. Fortunately he does have a "big imagination that will take him on all sorts of adventures, but on this particular Saturday something truly extraordinary will happen to him..."

Designed in the same third-person 3D style but promising to be "structurally different" than its predecessor, Captain Spirit delivers a "self-contained narrative experience that’s brimming with content – the deeper you dig, the more you will discover." You can take your time to enjoy the first time through, but the game includes content that you likely won't discover the first time through. Adding to the lure of replays will be "some secrets that may very well take a coordinated group of fans to unravel."

The best part of all about The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit is that it will be available completely free. And soon, too, as the game is due to release on PC, PS4 and Xbox One on June 26th. A developer video offering further insights into the game should help tide you over until then.
