Sea of Solitude gets public reveal

Normally E3 isn't a major source for new adventure game news, but so far already this year there have been not one but two promising announcements. Hot on the heels of Dontnod's Twin Mirror reveal comes word from the EA Play press conference of an upcoming EA Originals title called Sea of Solitude.

In a flooded world where humans turn to monsters if they become too lonely, just such a fate has befallen a young woman named Kay. But although lonely she's far from alone, as "this ocean is full of creatures just like her." It'll be up to players to navigate Kay through the waterlogged environments in search of other monsters that "may be the key to changing her back."

While very little is known of the gameplay so far, Sea of Solitude is being billed as a "third-person exploration game" in which players directly guide Kay both by boat and on foot in places where the water parts for the protagonist (how that is possible, we don't yet know). The early screenshots and trailer show off some of the gorgeous 3D environments and haunting character designs we can expect, and at least hints of a degree of running and jumping proficiency in order to proceed.

The creation of German developer Jo-Mei Games, Sea of Solitude is currently in production for PC, PS4 and Xbox One, with a target completion date sometime in early 2019.
