Adventure Game Scene of the Day - Saturday 21 May
I apologize for my late posting this week.
Secrets of the Luxor
You’re an archeologist exploring an ancient pyramid, but as you uncover its secrets, many of them quite deadly, you realize that a megalomaniac has been one step (and ultimately several hundred years) ahead of you. Your mission is to catch up with him and save the future world from destruction. Easy-peasy, except that there are sinister puzzles lurking in every room and a couple unusual mazes to explore without getting killed.
The screenshot shows one of the rooms in which you have to aim beams of light without frying yourself. I died several times here and in many other quite creative ways but didn’t mind it at all because the game automatically put me back just before I made my fatal mistake. Although the basic premise of the game has been done many times in games, movies, and tv shows, this one has some unique twists and unusual environments that made it a blast to play.
Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations.
This is a title that I very much wanted to play. It was available at the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas and I managed to finagle my friend to pick it up for me when he went and promised he could play it first. He liked it a lot but when I tried to play it, it just wouldn’t run on any computer I had - Win98, XP. To this day I have been able to tweak dozens of cranky games to play but not this one.
I like old tech and someone gave me a laptop that runs Windows Media Center os. It ran perfectly! Go figure. Unfortunately I never finished it but I think now I will.
I am surprised that I never played this game. When reading your description, I found myself scanning the bookshelf looking for the game. It wasn’t there. Lot’s of games that contained Egyptian themes, e.g., Cameron Files, but not this one. Should probably remedy that situation if a copy can be found at a decent price. Will have to check gog or Amazon.
For whom the games toll,
they toll for thee.
The first part of the game is the pyramid exploration, but there are other very different environments to explore as well. I especially liked a maze-like rotating building that required different settings to gain access to different rooms.

I haven’t played this one, but when I read the title I associated it instantly with casinos, couldn’t remember why, and thought I maybe going a bit mad.
Thanks for saving my sanity.
I really liked this game too. I think that all the ways you died were different - electrocution, burning, trauma, etc. I wish some of these old, obscure games were rereleased so that we can replay them on newer computers, Either that, or I’ll have to fire up my Win 98 (or Win 95?).
