Admittedly I haven’t played the game at all - I was put off backing it by the impression it gave beforehand of portraying women as sex objects, plus irritated at the time by Lamb’s contributions on this forum, and I never played QfG anyway.

At what time exactly? Lambonius joined AG in April 2013. The QfI kickstarter ended in July 2012. The PayPal option to contribute to the game closed in March or April 2013.

It hasn’t worked for some people, others have gotten what we were going for and even praised it.  I do think it’s interesting that some of our most glowing reviews have been from female reviewers though, and they never even mentioned it.  Not sure what I mean to suggest with that, but so far the people bothered by it do seem to be in the minority.  It’s not a Leisure Suit Larry game, by any means.  I don’t think the humor ever really crosses over into being crass.  Silly, yes.  Sarcastic, absolutely.  But not crass (at least, not intentionally.):)

Maybe it wasn’t crass enough then? You know now that I think about it, it’s odd LSL never got torn apart for objectifying women, since women in Larry’s world were literally objects for him. Maybe reviewers back then were smarter and knew that the game wasn’t in any way endorsing Larry’s way of life, just as QfI isn’t trying to portray a realistic world.

In any case, saying it’s wrong for a main character (a rogue, no less) to want to touch a female is silly, and bordering on crazy.

Obviously, I have a biased view about it, having been in on the production, but it’s worth noting that MOST characters in this game are stereotypes, not just the women.  The whole game is meant to take the piss out of your standard pulp fantasy tropes: the gruff sheriff, the snooty mayor, the burly blacksmith, the smarmy rogue, the crafty sorcerer, the jolly innkeeper, etc. etc. etc., including the warrior woman, the femme fatale, the mysterious seductress.  It’s all meant as parody and satire, and is addressed with the same sarcastic humor as every other element of the game.

Ok, I take your point, but (if it’s true) having virtually all female characters as sex objects (and pretty much all character representations I’ve seen have suggested it is true) doesn’t represent the full female range of pulp fantasy tropes, does it?

At various times starting from the kickstarter campaign. Never went so far as to check when Paypal option was available/still available due to the negatives I mentioned. Backed “Mage’s Initiation” in Feb 2013 instead which sounded a similar style but without the negatives of QfI.

This morning I did as Collector said, redownloaded the file, closed everything running that might interfere, clickety-click, same thing happened: something goes wrong after the verification. It’s a mystery.

Here’s the good news: I bought the game at GOG and everything went smoothly! Thumbs Up Yes, I bought the game twice and took a risk, that’s the price I pay for not wanting to use Steam unless I absolutely have to. Win-win: you guys sold one more copy and I’ve already explored the town and witnessed the execution. Laughing

Blackthorne, okay, I guess it’s a misunderstanding on both sides. Sorry!

You’re very good at ignoring or pretending to misunderstand posts when it suits you. So let me spell it out for you.

Lambonius did not join this forum until almost a year after the KS project ended. There is no way his contributions here could have played a part in your decision not to back Quest for Infamy.

Finally got to play the game. Really enjoying it so far - a truly large map open for exploration, great number of characters and a naughty tone set from the first minutes. There’s a clear indication of what kind of bastard we got stuck with. Everyone unhappy with sex references and the role of women in a PC adventure game is missing the point. Also the story itself takes place during medieval times when feminism was non-existent.

That said, I do find some jokes a bit too rude for my taste. It’s cool behaving bad for a change and gaining Infamy points, but constant fart and pee jokes are not up my alley. Also the quality of voice-overs is inconsistent. Sometimes they sound as if they were recorded in a garage. This gives an unpolished feel to the game, and takes away from the game world and characters. In comparison, Heroine’s Quest didn’t have those issues.

Just the one - just pressed send too early, hence the double post lol. Nope, you don’t annoy me - think it’s more the opposite, hence your constant need to respond & argue - the same as you do with lots of other people on here. But as more than once previously, I won’t be replying to you any more (I knew responding once was a mistake lol) as any intelligent discussion is impossible. I’ll wait for any response from Blackthorn who (together with Lamb a bit) my message was intended for, as opposed to your gracious self.

Feminism certainly was non-existant, Doom, you’re right, but there’s no medieval time I know of when most women walked around with their tits hanging out. You can’t argue for it on a “realism” perspective that’s for sure (to be fair to Lamb, he didn’t try to do that either).

There was probably no chain underwear, but literature of that time indicates that men were excited by the look of women wearing corsets that showed their best parts. Also it should be mentioned that all portraits in the game were drawn by a woman.

Anyway, so far I stumbled across only one girl who runs the local pub. And she made fun of my character, clearly showing who is the boss here.

If you want to see a real storm in a waterglass about the subject of scantly clad females in games visit the comment section of RPS review of Divinity: Original Sin. It’s pretty hilarious really, especially because it all exploded after someone posted an old cover image for the game that was discarded a year ago.
