Eurogamer liked it a lot, seems like less horror and more story:

They also complain about the monsters, but because they can be frustrating/unpredictable

Yeah it seems all reviewers are moved by story than Horror.
So have to remain optimistic for other reasons i never expected.

That machine for Pigs collaboration infused narrative spirit in Frictional.

Finished.

Pros

Good existential story mixing elements of Systemshock, HarlenEllison, Bioshock, P.K.Dick etc.
Sound Design uplifts the immersion.

Cons

I didnt like the lack of Horror, its not just the design of enemies, its how you can dodge them easily, its basically same stuff that bothered people in Machine for Pigs. Look a pig monster, revolve around crate and he will miss you.
It made sense there as Frictional was doing a game with Chinese Room, but here its same more ChineseRoom than Frictional.
But unlike the leap and growth in production of EBGttRapture, here things felt really weak in Voiceacting and graphics.
Plenty of low textures and Polys all around, would have used UE3/4 normal maps, or Crysis with shiny metallic textures , more texture detail etc.
In start voiceacting was making sense as its some random dude , but sometimes NPC Robot’s voice modulated sound is as bad as lead character.

Verdict

A ripoff of Systemshock but failed to capture same sense, they even copied the cover art concept, though story wise they were able to portray the Scifi tropes with some nuances. Encounters become joke with time, they appear randomly but struggle against them is one dimensional.

A ripoff in price. Great experience for 15$ nothing more than that.
Other recent AGs like EthanCarfter, Rapture and KQ are way more better in production.

If you want dose of good Scifi AG story get it for that only.
If you want to get good Scifi AG game get Stasis.

7/10

This game manages to entirely break the fourth wall which is definitely one of its biggest accomplishments. When at its peak it’s an interesting merge of Science Fiction in the vein of Asimov and an almost Cronenberg-type of Body Horror.

It does outstay its welcome and many of the story/character-threads only gives you ridiculously small insights and much of it is filled with pure technical nonsense. Most of the environments are also a bit to similar.

The sound design is one of the best I’ve ever heard.
