Hiho! Please allow me to present what I’ve been working on for some years now. Smile

So – without any further ado (and some mind-drum-rolls) – here it is – another one-developer-nearly-zero-budget-point-and-click-adventure: “Scott Whiskers in: The Search for Mr. Fumbleclaw” - https://www.scottwhiskers.com/

https://www.scottwhiskers.com/kickstarter
https://www.scottwhiskers.com/steam

SWiTSfMF (for the sake of simplicity lets call it “Scott Whiskers” Wink ) is a humorous point’n’click adventure game inspired by the legends of the genre, especially Monkey Island, Zak McKracken, Maniac Mansion or Runaway – a Road Adventure.

It’s a modern, cartoony 2.5D adventure (hand-drawn 2D HD backgrounds and 3D characters) and will be released for Windows, macOS, Linux, Xbox Series X/S, PS5, Android, iOS, tvOS and Samsung Family Hub Refrigerator (just kidding…unfortunately Samsung thought the game was too hot for their fridge). With full mouse and keyboard, touch and gamepad support on all supported platforms.

The games story is about the quest for a missing cat, some more cats, crazy rich people and hard-working people, even more cats, capable and not-so-capable movie businessmen, the joys of experimental vegan food, serious police work, and lots of other crazy stuff. Oh, and did I mention it’s also about cats? Why so many cats I hear you (not) asking…well…because I am a crazy cat-person. And the minion of many furry lords. If you like – you can follow their regency on their very own Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/AxelsKittyCorner

Well, story-wise the game contains everything I love and like. From my love for animals to my love for Star Trek and other nerdy things – it’s all in the game. All the things I grew up with in the late 70s and 80s. Yes, I am really that old. In fact, I am SO old that I know firsthand from the 80s that a C64, a hamster, and a microwave are one hell of a combination.

With “Scott Whiskers in: The Search for Mr. Fumbleclaw”, I have fulfilled a long-standing dream. I have been working in the games industry for quite a while and have already released several smaller and larger projects with my own one-man company Fancy Factory and some other companies. But nothing as complex as “Scott Whiskers” yet.

It is quite a task to do all the conception, writing, programming and marketing. And sadly I have absolutely NO artistic skills at all. Grin And I have first and foremost my skilled nephew Daniel to thank for providing me with the beautiful 2D backgrounds for this game for free. Without him, I would never have been able to afford this dream. Yes, this is really a “nearly no budget” project. And you’ll notice every single cent which wasn’t spent! Promised!

And – due to the limited budget of the project, there will be a Kickstarter campaign in the near future. And I would be happy to have you on board for it!
Hopefully I will be able to translate the game into some more languages (it’s definitely available in English and German). And a full dubbing would be great too.

When the Kickstarter campaign launches, there will be a small demo available for download.

You are welcome to register for the campaign on Kickstarter and get notified when the campaign starts (which will happen sometimes next year): https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/fancyfactory/scott-whiskers-in-the-search-for-mr-fumbleclaw

And – until then I hope it is OK when I post here some screenshots from time to time to visualize my development progress.

Thanks for reading and - with Spocks words: live long and prosper!

Looks very promising.
You can’t go completely wrong with anything that is based on C64 and Star Trek!

Anyway, the largest living animal is blue whale, and they are not vegetarians.

Not sure where that came from. I agree that it looks good. I’m definitely a fan of the non-retro graphic style. It’s hard to tell whether the captions are used as subtitles, or whether there is no voice acting currently planned. If the latter, my enthusiasm level drops a notch. Keep us informed.

Yes, the captions are the subtitles.
The voice acting is heavily dependent on the success of the Kickstarter campaign. And will be the first stretch goal of the campaign. Of course I would LOVE to have full voice acting. Smile
But…and this is just my personal opinion…I think its better to have no voice acting then bad voice acting. 🤷‍♂️

Pizzeria Alfredo’s desk ad.

“The oldest - The strongest - The largest are fueled by plants” with a picture of an elephant.

That could be intentional, of course, but as such, it is factually incorrect.

Totally missed that. Even on my 28” monitor it’s a little small to see clearly unless you’re looking for it. It’s both factually incorrect, as you say, but also something to be aware of, i.e., the possibility of clues hidden in the “fine print” of the actual game.

Uh oh…I’m afraid there’s no big mystery to solve. Grin And, to be fair, the picture clearly shows an elephant, not a whale. A vegan elephant. With no interest in plankton. And sometimes an elephant is just…an elephant. Wink
But maybe I should have better written the Ad with „SOME of the largest“ - not simply „THE largest“.
Mmhh, now I’m sorry for not giving the whale the attention it deserved. Maybe in the next game… Wink

Even elephants don’t pick off one by one all the tiny invisible bugs from all the plants they eat. Nor do us humans.

Nor do lions meticulously pick every speck of grass off the carcass before they start to devour it. Does that make them omnivores?  Laughing

I guess only two things are safe to say. The blue whale is the largest animal on earth, and the elephant is the largest land animal. And, FWIW, I wager that the blue whale sucks in a lot of algae as it acquires its daily dose of plankton.

Hi! I thought it might be nice to share the beginning of my point & click adventure “Scott Whiskers in: the Search for Mr. Fumbleclaw” in the form of a little video. Moving pictures are always something great! Aaaaand…ACTION! Grin (just click onto the picture)

Please allow me to introduce the first three characters from my game in a little more detail. Smile

But first a small request: it would be great if you would support my little game by participating in the Kickstarter campaign (sometime this year).:

So then - I’ll start with the hero of the game, of course - Scott Whiskers. The “nice guy next door” is a long-term computer science student, cat - and Star Trek fan, and volunteers at the local animal shelter. That’s also where his best friend “lives”...tomcat Jimmy…who Scott hopes to adopt one day.
Scott is always up for an adventure and embarks on an exciting search for the noble kitty Mr. Fumbleclaw in the game.

And then we would have Mary Rutherford, the manager of the regional animal shelter. She is Scott’s boss and a kind-hearted soul. She is constantly trying to save the world and is in search of the great love.

And the third one is Susie Longbottom. The crazy little kid - daughter of Lord Percival Longbottom (I’ll introduce him later) - is obsessed with monster movies! And determined to make her own monster movie. But not before turning her cute little hamster Mr. Snuggels into a movie monster. Poor Mr. Snuggels…

And here are the next characters from my game. Smile

Ok. Let’s start with Butler Rhumstone. He keeps the household of the illustrious Longbottom family running, is an expert on cat hair, head of the online role-playing guild “The bloody Tailcoats” - and secretly deals in a very special “natural product”. 😁

And then there’s Rhumstone’s boss: Lord Lord Albus Percival Longbottom. A rich archaeologist who has never heard of Indiana Jones (is that even possible?). He has to tolerate his wife’s cat breeding - but definitely prefers Chihuahuas. Yes…exactly…those annoying little yappers…. 😁

😀 I really hope that your daughter will have a lot of fun with the game! The game is very family-friendly. It contains lots of cats, dogs, hamsters - and even a rat called Steve. 😁 I just love animals!

To be completely honest, this doesn’t look like my cup of tea. I’m only replying to give you some advice on promoting it. I think you’ve made the same 3 mistakes that almost all kickstarted indie adventures that come on here touting for business make:

1. The title’s too long. Why do you have the colon? Nobody knows who “Scott Whiskers” is! Colons are used in titles like this where the IP has brand recognition. For example, “Avengers:Endgame” works because Avengers is a really famous brand. If the game does well and you make a sequel, sure, call it “scot whiskers : electric whiskarroo” or something. I think you’d be better off calling this one “The search for Mr. Fumbleclaw”, as that’s quite a memorable title and suitably “adventurey”. Also, the title format <hero’s-name-that-I’ve-never-heard-of>:<real-title-of-game> is so common in indie adventures that they all blur into one. Your game would stand out more without the colon.

2. Saying that your influences are Monkey Island, Broken Sword etc. No shit! This tells me nothing; it’s obvious from the screenshots and the skirting-copyright-infringement logo that you like the classics - tell me what makes your game different from them; how your game builds on the traditions, or just don’t mention it at all.

3. Writing a long “wacky” pitch post. This one may be a little more subjective. I get that you want to convince everyone that your game’s going to be funny, but you have to show not tell. Some story about how you really killed a hamster in a microwave in the 80s (WTF??) makes me less likely to contribute. Show me some really good screenshots with great sight gags, or a really funny joke in the captions. If you don’t have any good sight gags, put some in for the trailer. Look at the overview on the Return to Monkey Island page. They don’t try to be hilarious when describing the game.

I’m sorry if this comes across as overly negative, but it seems to me that you (and many other indie developers) could make your game more attractive to potential customers with a few really small changes to the way you present it.
