Hello there,

Does anyone out there know some good Victorian London Mystery games that don’t involve Holmes?

Thanks,
Abhi

Alter Ego is from Victorian era (probably not London), though it has a bit of mixed reception. So you might not consider it good Smile
I liked it, but it’s definitely not perfect.

Lamplight City without any doubt. It’s not exactly in London, but very similar.

The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles! The game does feature a certain Herlock Sholmes as a supporting character, but that’s where similarities end - he is more of a comic relief, a young and incompetent PI, while all the detective work is done by the beginning Japanese attorney who arrives to the Victorian London. I have yet to finish it myself, but the game(s) is definitely worth playing for the time period alone, the developers did a very good research on that era.

Thanks everyone for their recommendations. I just finished ‘Lamplight City’ - can’t wait for the sequel. They have created an awesome steampunk world.

I’ll check out ‘Alter Ego’ - kinda looks like ‘Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde’ which I am listening to on Audible right now.

Finished Lamplight City - loved it! Does anyone know of similar games with a Late Victorian look and feel? Hopefully with a Pre-Holmes C. Auguste Dupin type character.

Usually I’d check if this isn’t a double mention, but I’m tired.

I would recommend The Last Door. It does have a very specific style, with large pixels. It’s an abstracted style, still very figurative, but probably not everyone’s cup of tea. It’s also rather occult.

It does have investigation, Victorian London (+surroundings/beyond) and mystery.

I also loved Lamplight City, played it twice. The only other recommendation is Syberia, it’s worth a try, anyway.

Why did you play it twice? Also, can you recommend some other games that have a similar aesthetic, tone and tenor to ‘Lamplight City’? I noticed you have a screenshot of ‘Broken Sword’ as your profile pic—is it a good game? Is it like LC?
