Adventure Game Scene of the Day — Saturday 2 February 2013
Oh, shut the fuck up.
There’s about half a million reasons why I hate Sierra’s awful attempt at a Myst clone, Lighthouse, but that annoying broken robot is probably the worst of all.
Strangely enough, I liked Lighthouse!!
I’ve heard some good things about Lighthouse, but also that it’s a hard game not suited to all players. I’d still love to try it sometime soon. Actually, I’m yet to discover the “beauty” of the 90s Myst clones.
Recently finished: Four Last Things 4/5, Edna & Harvey: The Breakout 5/5, Chains of Satinav 3,95/5, A Vampyre Story 88, Sam Peters 3/5, Broken Sword 1 4,5/5, Broken Sword 2 4,3/5, Broken Sword 3 85, Broken Sword 5 81, Gray Matter 4/5\nCurrently playing: Broken Sword 4, Keepsake (Let\‘s Play), Callahan\‘s Crosstime Saloon (post-Community Playthrough)\nLooking forward to: A Playwright’s Tale
Very tough game, but I loved all the mechanical contraptions.
@ diego - have you tried Shivers? That would be a good gateway 90s Myst clone.
Never liked Myst or most of the other games of that style, unless you count The 7th Guest and The 11th Hour as Myst clones?
Lyra did get on my nerves a bit, too, but, on the whole, I really love the game. It has lots of unusual (and some rather tough) puzzles, but also I liked the fantasy world with the different islands and different means of transportation.

Rama was not bad ALSO
Lighthouse was frustrating because de second cd of my copy wouldn’t work so I never finished it…
Zork Nemesis is an amazing game and my favourite Myst-clone (if it is considered one)
If Zork Nemesis isn’t a Myst clone, then there are no Myst clones.
I had problems with Lighthouse too. Unfinished due to some bug in the mines. Very difficult game, far too difficult for me in places. And yes, the broken speech of that Lyra thingie was incredibly annoying. The only good thing about the game was that you could choose different routes, so you wouldn’t be stuck in one place.
Now playing: ——-
Recently finished: don’t remember
Up next: Eh…
Looking forward to: Ithaka of the Clouds; The Last Crown; all the kickstarter adventure games I supported
unless you count The 7th Guest and The 11th Hour as Myst clones?
Myst release date: September 24th 1993
The 7th Guest release date: January 1st 1993 for Mac - April 1993 for PC
Say what now?
The truth can’t hurt you, it’s just like the dark: it scares you witless but in time you see things clear and stark. - Elvis Costello
Maybe this time I can be strong, but since I know who I am, I’m probably wrong. Maybe this time I can go far, but thinking about where I’ve been ain’t helping me start. - Michael Kiwanuka
7th Guest isn’t a Myst clone. It’s more along the lines of Professor Layton.
Myst release date: September 24th 1993
The 7th Guest release date: January 1st 1993 for Mac - April 1993 for PCSay what now?
No. I refuse to say that Myst is a 7th Guest clone.
