Murder Mystery games?
If you have a Nintendo Switch, the two Famicom Detective Club games are not only nice classic murder-mystery-style adventure games, but they’re really interesting historical games in a style that many people here (I mean, the English-speaking world) wouldn’t be familiar with because so few games in the style were translated - menu-parser-based 80s Japanese adventure games.
(The games are The Missing Heir and The Girl Who Stands Behind - though the second game is a prequel which was released later)
There’s some “old school” obtuse logic involved - including something I always hated but can’t really get too upset about given the game’s age - certain dialogue options requiring you to repeatedly ask characters about a certain topic multiple times in a row until they “relent”. Nowadays when games do that they have the decency to have some kind of clue about it.
They’re menu-parser-based games (i.e. you have a menu on the left with stuff like “Talk/Show/Look”) but do add some point-and-click elements kind of like Phoenix Wright if you’ve played that.
I thought I would revive this to see if there were any new recommendations?
The Case of the Golden Idol.
did a quick browse through the thread to see whether
Lacuna - a Scifi Noir Adventure

and
Chinatown Detective Agency
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1172190/Chinatown_Detective_Agency/
were mentioned - haven’t played either of them, but they seem good and perhaps of interest to the OP.
Thanks Vegetable Party,
I am thinking of checking out Chinatown Detective Agency.
Best,
Abhi
