Not to have this thread go in a loop but it comes across as punishing the entire development team for the opinions of one person who has wisely kept quiet on that issue since the Kickstarter started. He clearly doesn’t want to be defined by that one opinion.

Nonetheless, that’s not my main point for supporting the project. My point is that TenNapel’s artistic abilities outweigh his notorious views on one issue by a wide margin but that’s me and you can read more about that in this thread: http://www.adventuregamers.com/forums/viewthread/2013/

I’m failing to see TenNapel as a really bad dude though. As far as people with unpopular opinions go, he’s relatively tame:

He laughed because he was being a good sport at the absurdity. Your remarks are uncalled for because his sexuality is none of your damn business.

It would be none of my business if I was directly asking someone questions about their sex life. As it is I wasn’t asking questions like that and didn’t even expect Doug TenNapel to read my comments. What I was doing was merely making an observation. An observation that is far from absurd since there have been several studies now that show people who are against gays and oppose gay marriage get more arousal to homoerotic imagery.

Though I must say, since Doug TenNapel was apparently (according to your mind reading skills) too much of a “good sport” to express the indignant rage he felt over my forum comments it was quite nice of you to express it for him.

I’m expressing it for myself as a moderator of this forum, and I won’t tell you again not to make your comments so rudely personal.

As far as people with unpopular opinions go, he’s relatively tame: [COMIC]

Let me highlight something:

“I was raised that kids should be free to discover whatever they want to believe on their own.”
“That’s just another form of propaganda.”

“I’m offended by all of this religion talk. Can we please say the f-word in public, brag about smoking pot and watch pornographic underwear ads instead?”

The first quote is entirely nonsensical. The second one paints atheists as potty-mouthed porn-addicted potheads. As an atheist in the US (a traditionally vilified minority), shall I whip out my own personal stereotypes of Christians? Pah!

Tame schmame…

Don’t know if this has been discussed but apparently Nintendo showed some interest in the project at E3

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-06-22-the-neverhood-spiritual-successor-armikrog-draws-nintendos-interest

They could use more games for the Wii-U (and its a perfect console for adventures), maybe they could help with the funding if the kickstarter is not successful

Wilco, we’re open to going to any number of investors and game companies with Armikrog, but our first and best hope was to go directly through the fans. Even if we fund the game via Kickstarter (and we’re well on our way) the path to you getting a WiiU game will be so much easier than having to pay (double) for the same Wii U game through a traditional consumer situation.

We’re super excited in WiiU’s interest, and yes, we think Armikrog would be a huge benefit to that platform, but also that our game would benefit by exploiting that platform.

That’s awesome. Nintendo has a very loyal fanbase too *wink wink* so maybe if we bring this to their attention they’ll help see this project come into fruition.

I guess as a non-American and gay man I feel doubly insulted by Doug TenNapel’s worldview. Still, that wouldn’t stop me from backing Armikrog, but I never cared about The Neverhood anyway. It had a sliding tiles puzzle in it, and I fucking hate fucking sliding tiles puzzles. That’s like a design no-no. Also, generally the creative work that results from a reunion, a comeback of artists isn’t better, it’s worse. Sooo…I’ll pass.
An Earthworm Jim Kickstarter, on the other hand…now that would be something! I looooved Earthworm Jim 2! One of my favorite games of all time. But I guess rights issues and stuff stand in the way of that ever happening.
Since TenNapel’s games are non-political, it’s thankfully possible to separate the art from the artist. I hope it stays this way.

What happens if the game doesn’t get funded, will it still come out on the Wii U?

An adventure game is nothing more than a good story set with engaging puzzles that fit seamlessly in with the story and the characters, and looks and sounds beautiful.

Apparently no, new update!

As you may have heard, Nintendo recently contacted us to discuss the possibility of releasing Armikrog on the Wii U. Our first thought was “I wonder if anyone would want to play Armikrog on the Wii U?” Well…we think YES!!!

In order to make this happen, we’re announcing our first stretch goal of $950,000.

I am not sure if its a good sign or bad ,  in 4 days such a leap is a farcry IMO,
on other hand the WiiU gamepad features are cool.

Anyone who took back the pledge , might reconsider after reading this

I don’t think so.  And poor guy… being a poor oppressed Christian.  To say that he “always” has people against him is preposterous.  Christians control congress, the presidency, and legislation around the country.  He is not a poor oppressed minority.  He is part of a majority.

Pretending to be a victim and an oppressed minority by being a Christian in the US deserves disdain, not reconsideration.

If you post bigoted views, expect to have a backlash.  Maybe he will have learned a lesson, but I doubt it.

As a side note to the discussion: Since 2010, 97 adventure game (and closely related) crowd-funding campaigns have been completed on Kickstarter, indiegogo and a couple of other platforms. Five projects have received more funding than what Armikrog. currently has. Five have more backers. Three have made it past USD 900,000.

From what I understand, he didn’t exactly post his ‘bigoted’ views, someone else did that. Also, when you ask someone’s opinion, do you expect an honest answer or just want him/her to sing along? He did just that, gave his honest opinion on the subject, maybe not in the most eloquent way possible, which he admits himself. What lesson is he supposed to learn, to lie and pretend to make you happy?
