If you don’t mind for me go ahead and spoil it because the walk throughsays all you do is put a brick underneath the lift and it should stay up

You need to get the robot behind the building to push the car through the hole. I don’t remember exactly how, I think by talking to him so he tries to hit you.

yes I already knew that but you have to put the brick underneath the car lift to keep the car lifted, so when the robot punches through the hole he hits the car, but no matter what I do when I leave the room the lift drops down automatically, even with the brick wedged underneath it. so the robot just punches the air through the window because now the car and lift is back down in its original position.

I see. Is it possible to put the brick in the wrong spot under the lift? I’m just guessing.  If not, then it must indeed be a bug. Contact the dev, he was very helpful in the steam forums.

Thanks for trying, and no i cant move the brick or place another one, my last save other than this one was way back in chapter 3, so I think I’m just done. I wasn’t really enjoying the game much anyways let’s be honest. I’m going to take this as a sign that I should just abandon it.  I was looking like a 5 out of 10 and with this bug Im going to give it a 3 out of 10

for anybody that’s been keeping up with the thread, I can’t beat the game because of a bug but if I screwed up I will update my post.

Either way I’m not a huge fan of the story or the puzzles in Owlsguard. Like I said in my previous posts in this thread, there’s a lot of puzzle ideas that are very interesting, but I don’t think most of them come together in the end. For instance in this chapter there are at least three or four timed puzzles that you can eventually solve but they all are kind of wonky to me. None are terrible but they just don’t work seamlessly as they should. Also as was pointed out in another post there is one puzzle where you have to talk to a robot, yet throughout the game it’s been taught to you to never get close to or talk to any of the dangerous robots repeatedly because death will ensue. so talking to it would have never hit my brain to begin with, because the game trained me not to try to engage them on a personal level.

On top of that the story is a convoluted mess. There’s so many different ideas and threads going on here and none are fully fleshed out. it is one info dump after the next. In chapter 3 the female fox basically tries to explain the plot in one long info dump and then in chapter 4 a fake robot version of the main character tries to explain the plot in another info dump and my eyes just started glazing over because none of it was properly executed to me. Just like with the puzzles there is story threads and ideas that are awesome in this game, but the story is like five genres smashed together and while each one is cool on its own, when you try to combine them, it creates less of the whole experience.

Now things I did like, the animation, and the background art is great. most of the voice acting is also decently done, there is a germ of a story idea here that is brilliant, but sadly for me it just does not come together. As I said previously the developer has a lot of talent, but this game did not deliver for me on a satisfying level, but I’m still interested to see what they do in the future.

3/10 because of a game breaking bug, if that was not there ,I don’t think my rating would have been much higher than a 5/10.

PS I fully know that I’m in the minority on this one, this game has great reviews on Steam and a lot of fellow players here enjoyed it, I’m just not one of them.

This is harsh! Then again, if your are not enjoying the game, why rate it high) I also remember running into a bug in the last chapter, I think it lead to an instant death and the game just reloaded, so it wasn’t critical, but I guess by the end the developer just ran out of steam after working on the game for like 3-4 years all alone and didn’t pay enough time to polish it. I also kinda agree that the story gets a bit convulsing, with many different themes thrown altogether without properly explained.

Then again, I played the game thinking of it as a tribute to several lost companies — LucasArts, Sierra, Westwood — and some moments you mentioned felt to me like an attempt to find the golden mean. Like, the owl was certainly underused compared to Sam & Max, but compared to the idiot Cedric from King’s Quest 5? A very nice owl companion))

I liked cedric better to be honest, bc they gave this owl here no character traits besides being a plot mcguffin. Plus he was only used in one puzzle to lower finn down a shaft. I find it telling that you remember Cedric’s name but much like me, i cannot remember the owl’s name at all. He obviously didn’t leave a big impact on us lol.

My bug doesnt allow me continue unless i want to lose 2 hrs of playtime to get back at the same spot, to only hope the bug no longer exists.

it is pretty harsh but like I said, there was a lot to love and I will commend the dev on trying to make a real Adventure game and not just Nostalgia porn like a gibbious. Plus it does have real puzzles that will test your brain, even if I don’t think they’re implemented very well, it was a nice first attempt. Overall it was a valiant effort in general, but I think the game fell flat in many key areas, including being able to complete it without a game breaking bug for me.

Jdawg, I remember feeling similar about the puzzle you’re talking about, but I’m pretty sure it’s not a bug. There is *something* to do or some screen you haven’t found yet preventing you from moving forward.

As you can see, in this review I wrote shortly after the game came out, I was overwhelmingly positive about the first few chapters, but thought it fell off a cliff in terms of story and puzzle design once the plot takes a turn for the sci-fi and leaves the fantasy setting behind.

Don’t listen to them JDawg, giving a passing 5/10 grade minus a couple points for a game-breaking bug isn’t harsh at all. I’d be a lot less generous than you - if I couldn’t finish a game or book or movie because a part of it was missing I’d be inclined to give it a big fat zero.

Okay, here’s what I think is the solution to the area you’re stuck in. If this doesn’t work, then yes, it’s a bug:

Did you know you can go around the building with the car from two different sides? If you go around the right side of the garage building (the side farthest from the bottom of the screen), you can then click on the object ‘hole’ in the back of the building. Once you click on the hole and are standing between the hole and the angry robot, you then need to talk to the robot and move out of the way (a save game warning icon will flash). He’ll punch the car and viola. If you go around the left side of the garage building, your path is blocked by the wall—you can see the robot, but can’t actually move your character directly between the robot and the hole.

Well if you know what to do please tell me because I would like to complete the game because I’m close. I checked two different walkthroughs and apparently there’s nothing else to do after you put the brick under the lift and get the robot to punch it through the open hole in the wall.  like I said I have placed the brick under the lift but it still drops when I exit the screen automatically.

Yes I know where the robot is and yes I can get him to punch the hole in the wall, to where the car is stationed, but the problem is the lift does not stay up, if you remember the wrecked car is on a lift and you press a lever in the room to get the lift to raise. The solution should be to put a brick underneath the lift while it’s in the up position to keep it elevated.my problem is the lift glitches through the brick, When I Leave the Room and it automatically drops, so when the robot punches, it punches air through the wall instead of hitting the car because the lift will not stay up.

I mean I thought about that but it seems that not many people have this glitch. I even checked the steam forums, nobody else reported this bug so my best guess to what happened is… there’s two different places you can pick up a brick from in this chapter, two different debrie piles, and maybe I useed the wrong brick, from the wrong debrie pile. which is not an excuse but it’s probably the reason the glitch is happening. It’s just I don’t have the inclination to restore a save from 2 hours earlier to play through this meandering mess again.
