What text-based adventure games do you recommend?
What text-based adventure games do you recommend?
The King of Shreds and Patches is probably the first text adventure I managed to finish. It has a memorable plot (Shakespeare vs. Cthulhu!), fun investigative gameplay, and a modern design style (with an automap, a quest log, no dead-ends, etc.). And it’s free! I can’t think of a more obvious recommendation.
If you’re feeling ambitious, Hadean Lands is a game design masterpiece. It is very complex, and quite challenging, but in a fair way.
Thaumistry: In Charm’s Way is great fun to play.
I don’t really rise and shine. I caffeinate and hope for the best.
Can you be more specific?
Text-based as in parser or some multimedia clicky thing?
Text-only or graphical adventure?
Old or more recent?
Any particular genres, like science fiction, mystery, etc.?
PC or some other platform (much of the older stuff was never ported to PC)?
There are hundreds after hundreds of text-based games, so recommending something without proper context is a real shot in the dark.
But I’ll do it!
Leisure Suit Larry III.
One of the best adventure games ever made. Works as a stand-alone game, but you will get more out of it if you play the first two Larry games before it.
I highly recommend Beyond Zork - one of the best text based adventure games. Larry 3 is a graphic adventure game:
“Leisure Suit Larry III: Passionate Patti in Pursuit of the Pulsating Pectorals is a graphical adventure games designed by Al Lowe and published by Sierra On-Line.”
I enjoy playing adventure games on my Alienware M17 r4 and my Nintendo Switch OLED.
