Adventure Game Scene of the Day — Saturday 16 February 2013
Today is Roberta Williams’s 60th birthday (happy birthday!), so here’s a scene from Mystery House. (Good thing Sierra started hiring real artists to do the graphics afterwards.)
We’re all waiting for Mask of Eternity 2 Kickstarter.
Recently finished: Four Last Things 4/5, Edna & Harvey: The Breakout 5/5, Chains of Satinav 3,95/5, A Vampyre Story 88, Sam Peters 3/5, Broken Sword 1 4,5/5, Broken Sword 2 4,3/5, Broken Sword 3 85, Broken Sword 5 81, Gray Matter 4/5\nCurrently playing: Broken Sword 4, Keepsake (Let\‘s Play), Callahan\‘s Crosstime Saloon (post-Community Playthrough)\nLooking forward to: A Playwright’s Tale
I’d take that over TSL any day. MoE was a fine game—it didn’t have much to do with King’s Quest, but it was a fine game anyway.
(However, no Kickstarter. The Williamses are filthy rich, they can fund the game themselves.)

Too funny, Diego. I hated KQ8. I got past the stupid skeletons, but that’s about it. The action was too hard for me. And Sierra had lied to us gamers about KQ8. Another level of adventuring… HA!
Now playing: ——-
Recently finished: don’t remember
Up next: Eh…
Looking forward to: Ithaka of the Clouds; The Last Crown; all the kickstarter adventure games I supported
What a Day!
A Day always to be remembered forever ..

Kurufinwe - actually, I agree. MoE wasn’t really a KQ game, but I think it was pretty good when taken on its own merits. If it had been shipped as an original IP I think it would have a (small) cult following by now. As it is, it just gets a lot of hate from KQ fans.

Yeah! If they had gotten them earlier, Mystery House might have looked like this:

That was cool to see. Here is another Youtube bit on the birth of Sierra and Mystery House.
I think Phantasmagoria is a decent game, too. Not a very good one, but passable and enjoyable enough.
Never played KQ8, but I agree that if it weren’t named “KQ” it might have been received better or differently.
Happy birthday Roberta!
Here’s the most recent picture of her from the SpaceVenture Kickstarter last year.
She looks like she’s still full of pep and vigor, come on woman - make a comeback!!!!
Here’s the Russian article on today’s occasion. You can use Google Translate for a rough translation. Some interesting pics.

LOL I remember that. The MS Painted text in that photo was laughably bad. Why didn’t she just print or write the message herself?
Oh, and Ken looks a bit…intimidating here.
Some interesting pics.
You mean like the cover of Softporn Adventure? I also just learned that RW posed topless for it (with strategically placed hot tub bubbles, of course).
i think if she is to see this thread, maybe some posts would be considered inappropriate !
Someone should do a Kickstarter for Mystery House 2. I’d pledge!
Crap! She’s almost as old as I am! Don’t remember this game. Didn’t discover games until KQ1 in 1984. I was amazed at the “high quality” of the graphics as they played out on my 12” RGB monitor. Didn’t much care for the need to re-insert my 5.25” floppy on an irregular basis as a form of copy protection. The thought that it has been 29 years since I played my first game is somewhat disconcerting. But I’m glad it was an RW game.
For whom the games toll,
they toll for thee.
