Forum Members’ Aggie Awards 2022

Well, it is what it is - I have decided to organize the “Forum Members’ Aggie Awards”, and the big question whether this will work or not depends on you - forum members. I will organize the list, the categories, count the votes and present the winners, but in order for it to work you need to be active and help me along the way - by voting, and expressing your thoughts on the format. The idea is to be as close as possible to the original, but since forum has its limitation and I have only a certain time to spare to this, it will probably be a “condensed” variation, but let’s see how it goes. Again, it depends on you.

I must say that I’m one of the readers who was very enjoying reading Aggies done by Jack/AG Staff every year, and this is a tribute to all the hard work and pleasure it gave us reading first the nominees, and then the winners in the cozy winter nights with a cup of hot cocoa. Since Dale confirmed there won’t be Aggies this year, and until we see another “Aggies” in this form or another, I’ve come to conclusion that we can do this on the forum, and I hope it doesn’t bother anybody. Otherwise, please tell me or message me and I will stop this.

Let the battle for Aggie begins!

The first task is to conclude the final list of eligible games. If you see certain game missing from the list, please write it here, or send me a PM. In few days, when I’m certain all games have been listed, I will present the categories and nominees for each, again with you voting for it.

These games are missing from the list:

The Entropy Centre
Gerda: A Flame in Winter
Land of Screens
Lost in Play
Monorail Stories
Not For Broadcast
The Spirit and the Mouse

Great initiative by the way, diego!  Thumbs Up

Another point to add is that if we’re aiming to get close to the original, then episodic series which weren’t completed in 2022 (like The Silent Sky) shouldn’t be eligible.

Diego! Thumbs Up
The Past Within by Rusty Lake is missing.

EDIT: Boxville also missing.

EDIT2: Love you to Bits, are you sure? I thought that one was released many years ago. For mobile phones at least.

EDIT3: I have played 16 games on the list. Wow, that’s much more than I thought.

The Aggies didn’t include freeware. Let’s not try to be exhaustive just for a few forum members.

EDIT: diego, I’d suggest you only include games in AG’s database. Steam has lots of obscure indies hardly anyone has heard of.

Thanks all, updated! Keep it going!

@Karlok you’re right, deleted Love You to Bits.

@GateKeeper

Wow, you sure know your lists! I will go through it and add games. As for freewares, I will not include them in this voting.

Yes, that’s a good suggestion, let’s do it like this. However, if any forum member played or think that some game not included in the AG database is a worthy contender, please say so and I will include it.

32 more games added to the list! Thanks to GateKeeper for suggestions, and Karlok for “filtering” the list to the actual database of Adventure Gamers.

Another game missing is Broken Pieces. Despite having bought and being very interested in it I haven’t even managed to install it yet so I’m not sure how ‘adventure game-y’ it is, but it is on this site.

Thanks Diego for taking this on. Smile

Incredible! Everyone: discussing whether Aggies could and should be resurrected, Diego: resurrects Aggies Smile I hope AG would at least post a link to the voting when it starts on the front page.

Diego, are you sure you want to do it “old-style”, i.m. make a list of games for each category? I imagine it would require a lot of time, even with some handy database like mobygames that tags games by their themes and mechanics at your service. If so, maybe the task should be split between volunteers, or assigned using force and threats? In this case we may even have the “Best freeware” category compiled by GateKeeper, for example, or “Best casual adventures” by rtooney, although I think that could be done even without a list of games, same as the “best character” category.

That’s great diego!  Thumbs Up  I played quite a few games last year but looking through the list not so many released last year.

Anyway are you including episodic games? If not The Silent Sky is being released in parts. If yes then Secrets of Ascedonia should be included.  Smile

I don’t think “Best Casual Games” deserves a category. At least not this year. I’ve played maybe 20 casual games that were released in 2022. Some of them were more entertaining than others, but none of them were good enough to get into the “Top 20 of All Time” list. (That list is on the forum somewhere, but I don’t have a clue how to find it.)

So saying that a game list represents the best 10 casual games of 2022 isn’t saying much.

@Doom: My guess is that the format has to be old style if it wants to retain continuity with Aggies past.

In this case we may even have the “Best freeware” category compiled by GateKeeper, for example

I could compile a list of games, but has anyone played freeware games?
If no one is going to vote freeware games, then the list is almost useless.

I certainly have more than enough freeware games on my personal game lists to have material to be voted on.

If there’s actual need for such a category/list, I can do it.
