I’m up to 13 now with a few more hunches to check out, so I’m not looking at the hints yet.

Down:

1. This could be a surreal 90s indie band. Like Neutral Milk Hotel. But it’s not. It’s a great puzzle sequence that deserves all the fame and infamy it receives.

I found 3 more for a total of 16, but I think it’s time to see if the hints help.

I’ve had a go & have got to 5 - 4 of them via research! I peeked at the hints & thought that maybe I’d just stick with the original clues. 

I don’t know why: they follow the basic VP formula.
